Robinson used to do something like that when they played Rye cove. The starters only played a few plays during the whole game and the subs started. My thoughts In DB's case, the refs would screw them and make sure they got beat if a local team like Volunteer had a shot in the 2ed half.

Are you getting your talking points from Clark now?

Actually starting the 2's in some games is a pretty good ideal. I think Lost ole Dad brought that up earlier on this thread. If it were like this year I would of played the 2's against Clinton, Central, Crocket and Volunteer. It would help the players I think but you still have to have a coach that won't quit at halftime in playoff games. And thats the real problem....REMEMBER!

Ok.....so the facts are not even relevant? You just make stuff up and keep saying it until people just leave or accept it to get you to shut up?

Clark did not quit....what would you have him to run......what pray tell should he have run, oh guru of coaching? Please, God, please post something!!!

Alright Waco....legit question. No name calling. I agree, you are a diehard D-B fan and I am sorry for calling you a bandwagon. I really do totally disagree with your assessment of who ought to be Coaching our team. There is no person that has more ability passion drive and desire to win than Coach Clark. He does a great job with our team and those kids. I am on board with people who think our schedule needs to be beefed up... I also know that a lot of that is beyond our control. A lot of our brain freeze, as you put it, occurs, but I think it occurs at a different place than you think it occurs.

As for the Sevier Co. game...I don't think anything got shut down too early. That was the effect, no doubt, but not the play calls. First part of the 3rd, we control the line and the clock....score first in the 3rd and go up 28-0. At which point, sevier co goes 80+ in very short order, hitting some good passes on the way. Still no concern, had to assume that they would get theirs eventually, they are a good team.

At 28-7, the rules change a bit. Everybody all bent about putting that middle backer in A gap, but that was not the problem. He had been shooting A gap all night....nose one way and him the other. Only difference is that now, he is choosing a side. The major difference in 4th qtr is that we are not moving bodies off the line. In the end of the 2nd, when we are in control of the game, every running play worked and was a great play call because the line was blowing them 5 yards off the ball. End of the 3rd, same players that were getting blown off the ball in the first half are now playing in our backfield. The same plays that had Slaughter a hundred yds in the first half, were not working in the 4th qtr. Tried outside, tried the counter, tried some tricky stuff, devo, barger, fullback, I formation, spread, QB keep......not sure what else could do. 33 was on Cook before he could hand it off or throw. Sev. Co. Gambling and bringing 10 with one safety. If we just pop anything thru, if we whip just one guy at the point of attack, we are gone. We didn't whip anybody.

Then the part that I don't like to type, so I will paraphrase...coaches did not coach kids to release straight downfield and not block their gap on punt nor snap slow nor high ( very

sorry TK, not calling you out) long snapping been solid all year! Did not coach kids to come inside the numbers when you have outside contain on punt coverage. Did not coach bad

angles or sling tackles by the jersey and had none of that all year til 4th qtr of Sev. Co. game. There are more, but that is plenty. We stopped them on 4th down at the 50. That kid was a yard short of the 50. Line judge marked the ball a yard inside the end zone on the last play....umpire made the call before the line judge could get there to tell we scored first. ( just like Seth scored last year in Ot )

Not sure what got shut down......I'm sure that everybody has a diff spin and diff recollection of what happened. But there were plenty of chances given to make plays.....

Flame away, I'm not blaming any one person. I'm certain, in hindsight, that there are a bunch of people that wish that they would have done something a lil bit different that night. But to blame it all on Clark? You, Waco, are smarter than that. You know that he works and preps harder than any 3 people in the business. He and this staff are the reason that we are competitive as we are. Lost a lot in Coach Watson, gained a ton in Coach Colbro. Defense got much much better through the season as they got used to the totally new scheme......and coaches got used to a totally new way of doing things.

I am as sick as anyone about this loss, I know this is a chat room and over the top extreme opinions are the expected....but I'm not going to sit and let this happen on here and be read across the state. I'll celebrate the wins as a team and cry over the losses as a team. Enough accolades and blame to go around....but...

Coach Clark ain't the problem, he's the sole reason that expectations around here are so friggin' high that 21-2 over the last 2 years result in threads like this!

Roll Tribe!

just gonna keep re posting this every time Waco posts something that he just made up......

when 9 people are in the box, you pass the ball, that opens up the run, thats football 101, db could go 4 wide at anytime in the game, they did it all week in practice i know i was there everyday the last 3 weeks of practice, any more questions you want answered, did you not see swafford catch the ball in the endzone about 3 times in that game with 2 being called back, they ran a streak with swafford in the first half for a touchdown never ran it again why?, they ran the dive over and over that play wasnt working but they kept running it, please tell me we have more plays than that, i know we do and coach clark does to, i like coach clark but he blew it and he knows it

DBFAN4LIFE, Art and WACO,

Please don't buy your tix next year. That will open them up for some people I know. Art, that would be great if you would't buy yours, because I know your seats are really good. Waco, hope they don't monitor the computers at Fairway Ford, because if they did, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have a job.

DBFAN4Life, Don't go back to watch practice next year. Maybe you can go watch South or S. Hill practice. If DB was running 4 wides a bunch in practice, then they were out of their element. They averaged throwing about 8 to 10 a game for the year. The problem is that they don't have to throw against the teams the smoke.

Up yours!! I may even upgrade my seats. I have a daughter that is on the Dance Team, my wife has Stage IV Cancer, she likes to go watch her little girl perform... so get lost you SOB!! You know who I am, call me and we can talk about it. Better yet, I will be at the Dome tonight for BBall, find me.

As for the Indians, no matter who is Coaching, I will be there giving more support than you ever do for the the Tribe.

You got any issues with the Numbers I have laid out in front of you, gripe to someones else, I didn't make 'em up. 3-7 in the last 7 years in the Playoffs, 2 wins were against sorry as crap Jeff County and 5 losses were at Home, 3 of them in the 1st Round, as the #1 Seed loosing to 5-5 Teams. One loss we were up 24-0 at halftime, one loss we were up 28-0 with 2 min. left in the 3rd quarter. 1-7 against teams west of Jefferson County during that run. That right there deserves to be said again.....1-7 against teams west of Jefferson County in the Playoffs the last 7 years.

Yeah, that sounds like my fault.

So you've picked out this one word on this entire thread and desided to pick a fight over it. Were you sitting on your #### and playing on the computer when you ran across the "word". I think I might have something that you deserve. Yes Im sure I do. :popcorneater:

The "word" I've focused on in this thread is arrogance . The fact that Tribe fans believe they deserve a championship may go a long way in explaining why they don't have one.

I agree with all you say except that we did go from the wide set...33 was hanging on cooks arm before he could set his feet! Brcause they were bringing so many people, we had to keep people in, just to try to get a play off...you are correct about football 101. This game was played at a bit higher level than that. Nothing that happened in the first half, or on the

Last drive can be related to what happened in the rest of the 4th qtr. During the 4th, SC was sending more than we could block. That's why I said above, if we just whip one person, we walk into the zone because they were gambling, not sound defense. 4 wide don't work when the QB is laying on his back.

On our last drive, before the fumble, SC had tied the game. Went back to a more conventional defense, we walk down the field til the fumble. Still calling the same plays!!! Wonder why they were better calls in the first half and on the last drive of regulation than they were during the 4th??? Uh, it's football 101.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
