That is incorrect! The "regular season champion" is the recognized district champion. The tournament champion is just for the tournament bragging rights/Region Tournament seeding.

It's the same thing in college basketball as well. The regular season champion is the recognized champion of each conference and the tournament championships are simply for bragging rights/NCAA Tournament seeding.

Cheatham County is the recognized District 11-AA Champion for 2011-2012. Harpeth won the 2012 District 11-AA Tournament Championship and as a result enters the Region 6-AA Tournament as a #1 seed.

Are you given anything for that regular season "championship"? Are you announced at regions, substates, or state as District 11AA Champs? No sir. It is not like college. If you do not win the tournament you did not win the district. You guys have had a good season, but 2012 champions are Harpeth and Waverly in girls.

Bet you feel stupid

Not at all! As I have already stated TWICE now.....Harpeth was the better team last night. Harpeth is now 1-2 against the Cubs in basketball (0-1 against the Cubs in football) this school year. I am just glad that you (and your friends) didn't have to resort to chanting "let's play baseball" at a basketball event this time. Now that is what I would call.........."stupid".

Best of Luck to all 11-AA teams in the Regions :thumb:

Hey coachrop, you are absolutely correct in saying that postseason wins are "sweeter" and I'd admit that to anyone. My point (which you as a coach will agree with me on) is that the regular season champion is the recognized champion for 2011-2012. The tournament championship (which means more at this point in the year) does not take away Cheatham's 2011-2012 District 11-AA Championship.

The same thing goes for Creek Wood's girls. They won the regular season title which means that they are the recognized 2011-2012 champions. Waverly's girls are the tourney champs.

Lol Ok so if you say so it makes it so. Then why no plaque, why no recognition, why does history not record you that way? because regular season if for seeding purposes only. Nothing more. Each sport has only one district champ. I know you want it to be different, but it is not.

I'd take being the last one standing in the post season every single time. It's all for seeding until you get to state. I recognize the ones that are still playing when everybody else is sitting on the couch. Thats the team I want to be on. The one still playing. Right now Cheatham has earned a 1 seed for the district tournament and Harpeth has the 1 seed for region. In the end, they should be judged by who stayed in it the longest. TBD in basketball. Harpeth was the last team playing by the 2nd round in football. Nobody else wanted to be playing because they'd already accomplished everything they wanted to accomplish? I don't think so.

I agree with this. No one is saying Cheatham isn't a good ball team who can't go anywhere. Littlegar is just saying you don't get hardware for the regular season. When I played, I didnt want to lose the regular season games, but I wanted to be known as the District Tournament Champs. There isnt as much pressure in the regular season either. When people see you are the District Tournament champs, they know that that certain team out-performed everyone else when it mattered most. Now the last 4 teams in 11AA have another chance to out last each other.

If you think there is no pressure in distric play then you've never been in a 10 - 0 district situation, then lose one and play the last regular season game for the district championship. EVERY BODY PLAYS FOR THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP, winning the tourny is just dessert after the BIG MEAL.

First, I am not from Harpeth, so quit telling me Harpeth's reord. Second, the pressure is not the same as the tournament. There is some but not as much, and yes I would know.

I guess Cheatham can go buy their own hardware to hang that says regular season champs, go ahead and get one for every win this year and fill up your trophy case. Our District Championship is already on display at Harpeth.

Cheatham had a great season, I'm not taking that away from them. They also are loaded for next year and have a lot to look forward to. Harpeth peaked at the right time and played three of the best games of the season at the tourney. The real tests begin now and I hope both teams and all of 11AA does well. We are through beating each other up for a week, lets concentrate on the next level.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
