It was the great Wayne Woodrow Hayes, better known as "Woody" from THE Ohio State University. But we all know Woody along with Vince were old school coaches. This day and age it is more 50/50. Vince's Packers are now nearly 60% pass.....and when my beloved Buckeyes hire Urban Meyer they will be more mixed offense also.

That is one thing about GC....get ready to see a crazy amount of formations and offensive sets.

actually, it was General Neyland who should get credit for that quote ( i beleive i've been down this road in another thread, but couldnt find the link i was looking for)

go to the 4th paragraph in this article

Great week of practice. Great game plan. Great attitude. Go getum Cats!!!

It's shark time!! Greeneville is ready for some revenge and 3rd straight trip to cookeville. Offensively I expect then to come out and just smash the young and smaller bobcat D. Heard that Stewart had some sickness. Hope he's ready by game time. I expect Shuffler to have a big night, just gotta feeling!! The SHARKS will dominate and extend there shutout streak. All in all the devils dominate this game physically as they do every week. Bobcats better get ready to get hit!!

Devils 49.... Cats 0

I found this great article today......

Greeneville, Tn.

Thanksgiving is normally a time for faith, family, friends and fun.

This friday night, the Greeneville Greene Devils intend to employ all four as they seek their second straight state championship. A familiar foe will stand opposite of them, as they take home field advantage into battle on what should be a typically chilly evening in Burley stadium. Greeneville welcomes 2009 state champion Giles County and what should be a large crowd to see it unfold, to their home waters.

Home waters? you ask. Is this for the state swimming title? I can see where one might be confused. Allow me to clear things up. This edition of the Greeneville football team, although very high scoring and fast paced, is better known for its punishing defense, smothering coverage and all out assault on opposing offenses, thus the nickname that has surfaced..." SHARKS ", or a more common phrase heard from the players and some fans, " there's blood in the water ". Call it what you will, nickname it what you must, but one thing should come clearly into focus as you examine this veteran defense. BRUTAL! I've had the good fortune to witness most of the Greene Devils games this season and it has almost become tradition for some poor offensive player of the other team to either be carted off the field, or at the very least helped off the field by trainers. Unfortunately, when one of these "sharks" attacks, it is seldom that the phrase " leaving under his own power " is equated to that young mans health. And don't for a second let the notion that these "Sharks" are dirty or play beyond the rules. In fact, this is one the more efficient defenses I have witnessed at the High School level, as far as clean, crisp tackling is concerned. IT's just that they strike with such raw power, lightning speed and surgical precision, that the opponent rarely even knows what's hit him, until the smelling salt has worn off and the trainer tells them " no young man, that was not a truck, it was # 5 ", or an other number parousing the dangerous waters of the Greene Devil defense. This friday, the Bobcats of Giles County hope to counter the shark attack with a rather dangerous attack of their own. I'm calling it the "Corn off the Cobb" attack. Led by quarter back Al Cobb, the Bobcats hope to out fox the sharks and swim past them with their multiple offense and dangerous passing attack.

As I have yet to witness this team play, I am reserving the right not to voice an opinion of their chances against the sharks. As witness to the carnage that has been scattered all about the pettetized turf of Burley Stadium, I will however hedge my bets on what i "DO KNOW". The Greeneville Greene Devils, will prevail in this game, simply due to the "fear factor". You've heard the term before and you've seen the results in the box scores. This defense is just scary. Whether you are an opposing team, or simply a fan in the stands, one thing keeps resonating through your mind as you witness bite after bite from these young men...." will it ever let up, will they ever stop attacking ?" The answer is simple....not as long as their's "blood in the water".

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
