Is this not during the mandatory, dreaded Dead Period??

Daisy May, The Dead Period eliminates TSSAA Coaches from coaching these kids at the tournament. They can ride with coaches, other wrestlers, parents, and be coached by anyone in the corner, except a TSSAA Coach! Year round wrestling opportunities are the only way we can elevate Tennessee Wrestling. Our kids want it and providing the chance to grow is what this tournament is about! Thanks for asking.)

Per the definition of dead period below taken directly from the TSSAA Handbook it would appear that the coaches are not allowed to have any contact with the wrestlers during the dead period. This means they can not transport wrestlers to the event. Depending on the definition or intent of the word "observing" you could have other issues. That is a question for the TSSAA to answer. Sometimes their interpretations seem a little fluid...

Dead Period – No coaching, observing, or contact between coach and players in sport involved. There is no

practice, no open facilities, and no weight training / conditioning.

Off-season work is important and a key to success. The thing that really needs to be changed is to allow TN coaches to work with their athletes in the off-season without restriction. That is where many of the other states currently are and it is detrimental to our wrestlers not to have it. These rules leave very few "qualified" coaches to work with our top athletes and even when they are available it is beneficial to have the help and support of the primary high school coach.

Folks I stand corrected by Mark Reeves, T.S.S.A.A. Executive Director of Wrestling, with regard to my previous response to "Daisy May". T.S.S.A.A. Coaches may not transport, or be in the gym for this event! He, Mark and I, will frame the correct guidelines to host this event.

My involvement will be limited to a classroom, as I too may not be present, to update bout sheets, brackets, and have an adult transport the paperwork back to the main gym. Any additional information will be provided upon further discussion with Mr. Reeves.

I would agree 100% with this statement. We have discussed it before, but i am new to the process of change. Would be worth evaluating!!!

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
