Private School Recruiting

BD, that is really the issue for you, based on your own words. And thats OK with me, we all have our own bias and I'm sure others may agree with you. But once again, I truly don't think I have posted anything that would be considered by most rational unbiased readers to be chest beating on CAK's part. In fact, I believe most of the CAK supporters have shown great humbleness in light of recent athletic success. You have an immediate distaste for CAK because they are a private school and you assume all the kids are rich, which they are not. And I think it is great that Livingston Academy won a state championship. They proved that if you keep working hard, despite some adversity during the regular season, that you can still accomplish your goals. I know our coaches have mentioned that to our players in the past, specifically citing Livingston Academy. I was impressed and respect their accomplishment. But I don't subscribe for one second to the notion that their championship is any more real than the one CAK just EARNED on the field. CAK has no real athletic advantage other than some parents do have the resources to send their kids to camps or get additional training, but the kids still have to do the work. Since CAK has NO zone we are not guaranteed any students or players. We are dependent on having families that 1) have enough income and are willing to spend it to send their children there rather than save the money by going to public, 2) choose CAK over other area privates, 3) that those kids are athletic, tough, and willing to sacrifice what it takes to win, 4) that there are enough of those kids to field a team, 5) that they are good enough and well coached enough to overcome the 1.8 multiplier which forces them to play against schools that have a much larger student population to draw from. So you are WAY off base as far as I'm concerned with your comment about who the "real winners" are. My son sleeps just as well every night as any other kid on a championship team, public, private, open zone, etc... He and his teammates and their parents haven't bought one thing as far as athletic victories or championships go. They are a band of brothers whose sacrifice on the practice and game field is as REAL as anyone else's. You can feel as negatively as you like about privates, or presumed people with money, and have great pride in your local area school's athletic teams and their accomplishments. But to suggest that those hard working, good kids that won a state championship for CAK this year are in some way LESS deserving than others who attend public schools is simply disgusting.

Oh I was just ribbing you little. There is nothing going on the T during the offseason, so, I just decided to rib someone. No disrespect, just bored.

Ribbing is fine with me, and yes, it can get a little boring right now for all of us who passionately love the sport of football. No harm. I was just defending my boy and school like any good Warrior would do. I've been on both sides of the private vs public issue and know there will always remain a certain element of discord between the two regardless of logic. Good luck to everyone who plays hard and with integrity :thumb: Looking forward to spring practice reports.

  • 5 weeks later...

This has got nothing to do with recruiting BUT...

Can aprivate school give financial aid to kids, say grades 1-8, and then not give financial aid to high school kids and still play in D-1?

Yes...a private k-12 school can offer financial aid for the elementary grades...then stop in the upper grades.

Don't they have to stop by the 8th grade if their is only one principle for the entire school?

Some stop at 6th grade. I think it's because the Jr High/Middle School is TMSSAA and they are division I...therefore no financial aid...

I really don't think it has anything to do with how many principals they have.

The principal rule applies to middle school students eligibility to play in high school. If the entire school is under a single principal or administration middle school students can play with the high school. Don't know how that would apply to recruiting and student loans.

heard there could be some boycotting going on next year with some public schools that have privates in their district.

Like I said in a early post we have 2 private schools and a 3 4a schools in our district. We like the challenge! I feel the teams that's crying about this needs to work a little bit harder!

    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
    • A huge addition to the staff today! Former Hardin Valley legend and Richmond College running back Aaron Dykes was announced as the running backs coach. Rushed for over 3,000 yards at HVA, with 35 total touchdowns. I loved watching in Hardin Valley. I can’t believe he’s at Bearden now. I know he was trying to get a HVA job, I don’t know what happened there and how he ended up at Bearden, but I'm glad he’s here and believe he will be teaching art class as well! What a good get for the staff!!
    • Thoughts? Gordonsville won it last year with a sophomore pitcher and returned almost everybody. Can anyone beat them?
