2013-14 Schedules - something HAS to change

Something HAS to be done about the playoff format. Teams are having to criss-cross the state just to find games, and/or dodging other teams right in their own backyard. Utterly ridiculous. I just wish TSSAA would come out and say they are just in it for the money. It would make it a little easier to swallow. Them charading under the umbrella of "doing things for the kids" is a complete SHAM!!!!!

Do the classifications for football and basketball separately and you wouldn't have to have 16 football districts. Having 14 or 15 could raise the average number of teams in each district without causing signifcant travel increases. That's an easy partial solution without scrapping the whole system.

Indian, then you would have uneven brackets for the playoffs. 16 to 8 to 4 to 2 to 1. With 14/15 someone gets a bye. Then you would have people complaining about that. The solution was to go back to 5 classes, but that got voted down for some reason.

It doesn't matter in the current system, some districts have more make it than others.

Five classes was voted down because eight regions spread it out too far.

No you wouldn't. 32 teams would still make the playoffs.

I would not object to ending the multiplier, having all the private schools back in Division I, as long as they were separated for the postseason and games vs private schools didn't affect public schools' playoff seedings. They'd basically be non-district games but would add to the schedules. The reason-not all public schools would have private schools in their districts. I'm not sure how they could do it exactly but it would probably be similar to the current system.

The problem I saw for us (Bradley Central) was the split of the District in 4 teams in Eastern Time Zone and 4 teams in Central Time Zone, if we went to 5 classes. The travel going west was OK with the extra hour to get there. But the return gate (let's be real, without gate receipts you can't pay for the program) would be almost nonexistant, for the Eastern Time Zone teams because Central Time fans would not be making the return trip in any kind of numbers. Most folks leave after work and if you work till 5 PM.... Central Time folks simply would not make that trip.

The proof was in the fact that Bradley took a good crowd to Blackman in 2011 (and band). Blackman barely brought (maybe) a hundred people on the return visit (without the band to boot). Nothing against the Blackman fans, just what happened

.

With this in mind the Eastern Time Zone teams would have to find 3 huge games for gate receipts to make up for the 2 games where would get almost nothing (assuming a 5 and 5 home and away schedule).

Here's how I'd have it in Class AAA (still with 5A and 6A playoffs), if you just classified by football schools and didn't necessarily have 16 districts. In Class AAA I had it working out best with 14. Each district would have 6, 7, or 8 teams though the Murfreesboro district wouldn't have that many until the new school opens. That would be an issue also Hardin County would continue to have long trips though that will probably happen in any system. There are some long trips, like for Lincoln County but I think they'd be better off in this group than going to McMinn County or even to the White County district.

The Memphis districts could use some work, I'm sure, I didn't look up street addresses and I'm not familiar which ones are more traditional rivals.

That's not much of a change, just reclassify by football schools and compress the districts a bit, and it would help scheduling for many teams.
