burgnova68
Hasn't Turchetta coached at Pitt (with Johnny Majors), Wyoming, Memphis, Kentucky, etc.......not sure that a Vanderbilt stint makes you "more experienced". Yes he did coach at all those places. And if that experience constitutes not staying at one place for very long - welcome to the world of college athletics. As for not getting along with people, I would like to see folks in-charge get along with others who go behind their back, back stab them and create a feeling of superiority with someone who has much much more experince and knowlegde than them. Some people have to feel like they are equal and others know they do not have to prove anything. I would want a coach who knows what he wants and will do what is best for his team. If that is a description of Herzog and Turchetta then SH should hire either one of them and not look back!
W.I.T.
As I have stated I think anyone of these men would make for a successful hire. I was asked to expand on percieved shortcomings and I will admit that there are few. I know coaches who have great things to say about both Tom and Richard. Likewise there are those who don't care for them as well. This is typically the case with most everyone. However those that do like them will admit to them possesing the quailties that I mentioned. I don't nessecarily view theses traits to be negative. Give me a guy who knows his stuff and what he wants to do anyday. There is no doubt that both Tom and Richard are very confidant and borderline arrogant, but most good ones are right? All I am saying is that this has a tendancy to rub some people the wrong way. And sometimes some people are just overly sensitive. Spring Hill would do well to have any of the aformentioned coaches. I'm not sure they could do much worse. bigredbird
I have heard that the Maury School Board does not like to bring back teachers who have left the system. Does anyone know of a coach or teacher who left the county school system and came back to teach?
PeterNorth
Herzog is a defensive guy and not necessarily a wing-T guy. Yes, he was at Hillsboro when Aydelott was, who was a wing-T/option guy. Herzog's focus was defense. At Page, I believe he was an eye formation type of offense, fyi. NattyBumppo
Peter North... how do you know so much??? I have read your posts in other threads .. your a man in the know!!
LeroyBrown
From what I've seen from both guys, they are very similar. Both are defensive guys that like to use a power running game to move the chains and eat the clock.

Glad you clarified your position and I agree - both Herzog and Turchetta are exaCTLY AS YOU DESCRIBE THEM. pERCEIVED ARROGANCE TO SOME MAY BE THE ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE IN THEMSELVES. ALL THE COACHING EXPERIENCE THEY HAVE, ON BOTH LEVELS, GIVES THEM TREMENDOUS INSIGHT ON WHAT AND HOW TO DO THINGS. LOOK AT WHAT PAGE DID THIS YEAR AND LOOK AT MARSHALL COUNTY - GETTING THEIR COACH TAKEN AWAY RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER WORKOUTS AND THEY STILL FINISHED AT .500 - BOTH IN THE PLAYOFFS - IF ARROGANCE EQULS THAT KIND OF SUCCESS - BRING EITHR ON ON BOARD. DOPN'T FOGET JASON HOATH - A SH GUY WHO DID A TERRIFIC JOB IN THE FA CE OF SOME REALLY TOUGH CIRCUMSTANCES AT MT. P[;LEASANT THIS YEAR. bigredbird
Why would any Superintendent allow a young coach to jump ship from one school to become head coach at another school in the district after only one year on the job? I don't see that happening! Of course, I have been told that Maury County Schools is a real crazy place to work. Do they still have the bullet proof door down at the Central Office building? bigredbird
Whatever happened to crazy old Bill Cox? I heard he went back to KY to coach, is he still kicking?
burgnova68
Whatever happened to crazy old Bill Cox? I heard he went back to KY to coach, is he still kicking? Not sure about Bill Cox and not sure about the bullet proof door at the schoold board office - but am sure about this - turchetta woudl be a heck of a hire - he had marshall county turned in 2 years, had the community behind the program and talking football again, and does what he has to do to run a program and get the best out of the kids. Players from marshall county still swear by him, call him and seek his advice all the time. That says something and tells me something about him as a person.
