Cookeville job open again

With all of the facilities & support from the Cookeville Community, I would have to disagree that a state championship will never be won there. If the right class came along at the right time with the right coach...it could happen.

Support and Facilities are there. But they aren't going through Rutherford Co., Maryville, and Memphis.

Traditionally the Cavs have done well in a "winable" district and have gone on to be a quick out in the state playoffs. The Rutherford County Schools have had their way with Cookeville. I believe a coach like David Martin would bring the discipline that the Cavs need to be able to get over that hurdle and become a winner not only during the regular season BUT during the postseason as well.

Fifth-largest school in the state, 2163, there should be plenty of athletes, plenty of size and always a large amount of seniors. They should be, potentially, capable of beating anyone.

While the 'R'dale' of old went thru them, they always played us tough.

This could be a diamond in the rough for the right coach.

Yes, I can see them taking state with the right coach and given the right support and time to do it.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
