That's great info to hear bulldawg, and a welcome relief. I had heard mixed messages from upper classmen about being not being "allowed" to focus on baseball during the summer without feeling like they were being punished for not participating in all the football requirements. I hope it works out for your boy. Good luck this summer! :thumb:

The upper classman are right! baseball is the stepchild.

Well, so far so good for mine. He has not felt "pressured" to pick between the two yet. Not saying it won't happen (or hasn't happened with some upperclassman), but it hasn't so far with my son. I'm sure baseball may be the "stepchild" to a football coach, just like football might be the "stepchild" to a baseball coach (ask the Farragut kids). However, all I can speak to are our own experiences and interactions, and they have been positive.

My son is a freshman and plays both football and baseball... He works out with the football team in the morning, even during baseball season. However, on game days the coaches allow and encourage them to not go too hard on those days so they are fresh for the game later that night. The coaches know which kids play baseball and have been very supportive of them. They also seem to be understanding if they have tests or school work that might need to take priority over workouts, especially if they play multiple sports.

As for this summer, we are getting ready to experience how it will work tyring to balance travel baseball with football workouts. Although we will be gone 24 days this summer for tournaments, it looks like he'll only miss 3-4 days of football workouts with the way they fall (weekends, dead period, etc.). Having 6:30am workouts help as well, as he can work out that morning, then hit the road later that day for tournaments. If you miss more than 5 during the summer, I believe the kids have to do hard yards after practice for every workout they miss over 5. And, they may have to pass a conditioning drill as well (however, that may only be for linemen...not 100% sure). I spoke with one of the coaches about it and he was very supportive of the kids playing both sports. So, I'd say a kid wouldn't have to choose between multiple sports if they are willing to put in the time on the field / weightroom and can handle keeping their grades up.

Rebulldawg send tha yungster ovur two tha trailur and eye'll hep catch "Z" upp on tha "conditioning"........Weal tern that windur a.c. unit wide opun and lett hit blow on us!!!!..... B)

Red Rebels, ask a band parent.

Ron, qb would be more valuable to this team than corner imo. With our two backs and oline we only need someone to manage the game taking what is available on each play and not turn it over. QB doesnt have to have a strong arm, speed etc but make sound decisions and lead in a way that others have confidence to follow, pretty much like last year with a Sr qb emerging after Garrett got sick. Vaught will have some huge runs when they go to him.

Our schedule is front loaded with three very good teams it'd be good for things to shake out and have a team identity early (I believe they already know who they are and have the swagger) and play to our strengths with confidence. Getting through those 3 games without being overly banged up will be a challange. If we do, there wont be a stiff challange until deep into the playoffs. Probably facing a tough Murfresboro team or Nashville area team at state.

Last preseason I predicted we'd see Whitehaven again and loose. Unfortunantly, I was right. (barring "the call" I would have been wrong) I think we win this year but it will be tough like when we faced Smyrna and it will come down to our qb having a cool head under pressure and Prevo will be a determined Sr much like Dodson that makes the difference.

I also think Garrett could play QB and Vaught could be a receiver. Who would step up at corner? I don't want a QB playing on defense.
