Beech's New Safety, Jalen Hurd . . . thoughts?

Recommended Posts

As long as you change residence and physically move, (at least the player) you can go any where.( is there a distance requirement now? )..there have been several over the years to have done the same thing.

Might wanna research as I'm certain you have to move at least 40 miles away

CAse in point Independence DB and future Vol

( Gaulden ) transferred last year from Brentwood Academy to Indy and had to sit out last year

Just looked in the TSSAA handbook in section 12 which is the section that deals with eligible ineligible transfers and didn't see anything that mentioned a distance. That is the only section that I looked through. I would have to do more research through the entire handbook to be 100% positive.

Hurd transferred from MBA to Beech the summer before his sophomore season. His family moved and he was eligible as having a bona fide change of address.

The rule states that when leaving a private school to a public school, to be eligible the new school has to be farther than a 20 mile radius from the old school and the previous home address.

This was addressed by his school, athletic director, coaches, etc. 2 years ago.

That is it - now I recall Gaulden ( Hurds future Vol teammate) lived 15 miles thus sat out lady year for Indy

How did Jalen become eligible after leaving MBA without sitting out one season?

I believe the school losing the athlete can waive the requirement that a player sit out a year. I can't speak to Hurd's case, but historically i know of several cases where MBA has waived the requirement for a player leaving the school. In this case, MBA would have had no real reason to object to his immediate eligibility, since Beech and MBA don't compete against one another.

TSSAA.com - there is a rulebook.

    • If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.
    • If y’all lose to Farragut something awful has happened.
    • Get him to Bearden ASAP! Or anywhere, Karns hs is in rough shape, probably not getting out of it anytime soon.
    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
