Mr. Football 3a and 4a

Recommended Posts

That upperman kid is a hec of a ballplayer but that looked like a jv team he was playing. I think his stats speak volumes and he should be at someones college soon. I still believe rollins-davis from fulton is a better candidate for mr football his stat line reads 109 car for 1558 yrds 30 tds 14.3 yrd/car in 9 games thats an avg of 12 carries per game. He also has 7 catches for 152 and 1 td. I think it is somewhat unfair to players like rollins who do what others do or more with only 12 or 13 touches a game. But hey its not up to me but I will be shocked if he does not make the list.

Well just about every defense he's faced he made them look like a jv squad. And to put it in perspective York has 1676 rushing yds and 25 tds with 151 attempts and an average of 11.1 yds/game. I'd say that's impressive considering he's the qb. As for passing he's 92 out of 142 with completions (%65) with 1539 yds, 23 tds, and just 3 int. with that being said I don't doubt Rollins-Davis is an exceptional ball player, but without a good supporting cast I don't think he'd have as good of stats that he does. Fulton is teeming with skilled players and York has to more or less carry his team. But I wouldn't be surprised if either of them gets Mr Football Edited by JohnnyRay

so think of it this way, could you imagine the York kid plaing with Alcoa or Fulton talent around him? Think his numbers might be better? I would think so. And currently 5 of the 9 teams they have played have winning records. Just compare his numbers verse Smith co and anyone on Aloca's team verse Smith Co.

Upperman's 3A opponents - Smith @ 5-4, DeKalb @ 6-3, York @ 4-5, Macon @ 2-7, Livingston @ 2-7 and Cannon @1-8

Their 1A opponents  - Gordonsville @ 5-4 , Monterey @ 5-4, Jackson @ 4-5 and Clay @3-7.

I stand corrected on my previous post.... I forgot about your killer single A non district schedule.

As for your Alcoa comment... The Alcoa vs Smith score was reasonable because Rankin has class and acted like he has been there and done that before and didn't put up stats the second half.... he let his bench play

York is an awesome player but he is not the only player at Upperman with talent this year. He owes a lot of his success to the line and receivers. I don't think it is a fair statement to say he "carried his team".

I agree 100% a lot if people fail to realize that Upperman has a lot of great players around York. Offensive and Defensive line is the difference in most of the games this year. Very well disciplined team. Should be an exciting postseason in Baxter.

Yes, he does have a lot of talent around but I believe this season would look way different if York wasn't on the field. You took what I said out of context. I'm saying that Fulton's line and skill positions are most likely way better than Upperman's, which allowed Rollins-Davis to perform like he is. Edited by JohnnyRay

Agreed. It would also look a lot different without Ely, Collier, Key, Stephenson, Jones, Dilldine, mann, the Butler kid on defense, Baker, Nash, the Butler kid at tailback and any number of others. Guess that's why they call it a team. I'm just saying I don't think York has carried the team like you originally posted. He's good but one reason he's good is because the rest of the team is good.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
