Grundy County Jackets 2014

I agree. But unfortunately I think 3-7/4-6 is competing for GC. These small counties believe they should hire a guy and have big results. Look at DC they hired a pee wee guy and he has built that program and they can compete for a region title each year. Trapp has brought stability to DC that's what small counties need.

With GC I don't agree with 3-7/4-6 being the ceiling as far as competing goes. Yall have had success in the past, and it is more than possible to constantly produce winning teams. In small rural county schools, talent comes and goes in cycles. Teams will be better in some years than in others. It's not a stretch expecting to win 6 games yearly at the minimum with the right coach. For the longest time, DC was flat out horrible. GC has more going for them than DC did at the time of Trapps hiring. He was not in the least bit qualified for the job. No one else wanted it, so he basically got it by default. His first few years were awful, but he got it turned around. Rarely will coaching hires like him work out. He is the exception, not the rule. DC just plain out got lucky. Record wise, GC has at least been mediocre to average recently. Not many teams can say they have made the playoffs the last 5 years. That is something yall should be able to build on in route to becoming more stable. Whether that is with the staff you have in place, or with new blood in the near future, is to be determined. The potential is definitely present, and there is a bright light at the end of yalls tunnel.

having a 4/6, (losing season) is not a ideal record for going to the playoffs.  ol yeller jacket remembers the day when it took a lot better record to get to the playoffs. and in that time it really meant something to have the opportunity to go to the playoffs.  a 4/7 record is terrible knowing the four teams you beat had losing records.  so if you don't even beat someone with a winning record, how are you even considered for the playoffs?  tiger fan, how is this something the Bryant boys can build on?

Non Caucasian coach needs to be brought in. Or atleast a HC from far away that will bring in a variety of assistant coaches with different ethnic backgrounds. Grundy County can't stay backwoods and country forever. Time for a change my friends. Join the crowd. The water is just fine! I'm just keeping it real

I would like to know what we are waiting around on here in GC? It's time for a change and what seems to be the hold up. We had a let down on the football field this year also on the hardwood both boys and girls. How long has it been since our lady jackets has finished this terrible 2 straight years? People this has been a very depressing year so far in GCHS Athletics. Hopefully our baseball and softball seasons will be a bright spot. Come on administration and board step up to the plate for our student athletes!!! Please!!! It's an embarrassment. Because we are capable of so much more with our talent here.

I know they've "talked" to several people.  they just cant get anyone to commit.  they have screwed our team again by waiting too long to make the change.  the coaches are still only "drawing" their checks and not doing their jobs!  their names should have been on the board for not being "team players". (ask any of the players what that means)  total lack of respect of grundy county football and basketball.

So yellerjacket they have talked To coaches? Which coaches? Football, boys basketball, girls basketball? Do you care to elaborate, please. From what I hear sounds like nothing's gonna happen. It's all hush hush. I just figured since who these coaches are them and there families are friends of the program and school and nothing will happen. But for the athletes sake you would hope they would see it for there self. I believe we have to get busy to make this happen and not drag out feet or this coming year will be a wash also.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • “facts” or better yet ‘opinions’ had been up for weeks/months. that’s not why the thread was deleted. get over yourself.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • Crazy how the thread just gets deleted when facts come out.
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
