Wow ... what kind of an idiot would live within the city limits--pay both city and county taxes--and still choose to send his kids to one of the county schools ?!? That's ludicrous. :popcorneater:

Aaron Tippin would be proud of you Govman. "You got to stand for something" right? That's a trait that is hard to come by in your area of dwelling.

LOL

If Geeker and "The Manila Folder" were at the county barns you would probably not be amazed at the idiots that would surface.

"Alcoa High School has 343 resident students and 193 tuition students".

People slay me. Alcoa has tuition students? So what? Repeat slowly after me - not... everything... is... about... football.

To reiterate: Alcoa High has a whole lot more tuition students *than they have football players on their entire roster*, and somehow the takeaway value is that it's about recruiting? Here's the deal. Maryville and Alcoa City Schools have a long history of being thought of as better schools, academically, when compared to their Blount County counterparts. Doesn't mean it's necessarily right, but it was that way when I was in school and I doubt much has changed.

I lived in Maryville and went to Alcoa Elementary, by the way, so in my own years I would have been one of the kids propping up this bizarre argument that tuition students have to have something to do with football. My folks sent me there because they believed that crazy blue hexagon was the best school in town for grade school kids. I wouldn't be surprised to find that a good number of those tuition students in high school have been there since kindergarten, and good luck convincing anyone that was a football decision.

I lived in Alcoa and went to Eagleton. My folks sent me there because they believed that crazy blue hexagon was the worst school in town for grade school kids.

LOL shhhh that doesn't fit the narrative! I think it was probably pretty new when I started there (1976). The whole open classroom thing was pretty novel.

PS - the real Blount County football apocalypse happens if we bulldoze the public library there where Sky City used to be, and use that land for its proper calling: a football stadium.

Let Maryville and Alcoa work out land annexation so that the city border is there just a little south of Hannum, and everything north of the 50 yard line is Alcoa, and everything south is Maryville. Make a horse-shoe stadium, with the south end zone open to the greenbelt. Maybe 12,000-15,000 seats. People can park at Midland Center and walk a couple blocks over.

Alcoa Elementary was dedicated on November 7, 1971. The previous school was Springbrook Elementary that burned down in the summer of 1968 between my 3rd and 4th grade year.

    • Eagleville hosting shows laziness on the part of the TSSAA and a complete disregard for the appearance of impartiality. Absolutely nothing against EHS. Its not their fault TSSAA is lazy.    I understand EHS staff work the games at Eagleville, and they don’t want to miss the EHS games. However this isn’t rocket science. It would take less than 1 hour to cross-train EHS and RHS volunteers at the opposite sites. If Eagleville (or any host)  makes the tournament, flip their game site and have the volunteers flip sites for the days their school plays at the opposite site. Magically the school’s fans would be present to watch the their kids play and the kids at least lose some familiarity and home field advantage.  It takes almost no effort and is a ~15 minute extra drive.
    • We feel the pain!
    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
