I saw where he was being recruited by them. Spoke with Coach Smith OSU, last year at the scuffle and he said a sickness is no excuse for losing a match and he may not pursue him.

Great to see a wrestler from one of the small school divisions succeed and show us the potential...

The Scottsboro reported last February that he won his fifth title by pinning Arab senior Tony Johnson in the Class 5A, 160-pound final at the Von Braun Center. He went 3-0 in the state tournament, with three pins, and finished the season 75-1.

“I lost to a kid from Tennessee (Tyler Sells, of Blackman HS)," Womack said of his lone defeat. "I had mono at the beginning of the season and it took me awhile to get over it."

His previous titles were as a seventh-grader at 103 in 2009, an eighth-grader at 103 in 2010, a freshman at 112 in 2011 and a sophomore at 126 in 2012.

“I jumped up a lot of weight (this year) and made it a little more difficult,†said Womack, who is 345-8 in his career, with 319 pins.

“I want to win my last (title next year) and then I want to go and hopefully wrestle D-1,†Womack said.

"I think he did a great job," Scottsboro coach Daryle Qualls said. "He went out and pinned the guy like he’s supposed to.â€

Mono isn't your typical sickness, it takes months to get over it and be able to get back into shape. If he had mono early in the season then chances are he never fully recovered before the end of the season, not to mention the breathing restriction, the total lack of energy, and the potential to rupture a spleen. Its much more severe than most people think.
