TSSAA Tie Break System

Does anyone know - or know where someone can find - the TSSAA policy on breaking a tie for district tournament seeding purposes? Checked the TSSAA website but could not find anything.

Some go head to head and then comparisons with the other teams seeded 3rd, 4th etc. A lot of districts do the dreaded coin flip or draw numbers.

District tournaments are decided by the district. The brackets can be different . Some have the 1 and 2 seeds already in the semi-finals, others strictly by seedings. As long as the they have it decided by a certain date, the TSSAA only worries about their cut of the gate.

I almost like the coin flip better,unless they want to limit the point differential consideration to maybe 15. Otherwise you may have teams running up thescore if a district race is tight late.

Right, but what if 1 and 2 tied with the same regular season district record. How would 1 and 2 be determined for the tournament? From the replies, sounds like each district makes its own rules for the tiebreak.

If they are tied and the two teams split, I have known the district to determine by point differential( in other words team1 beats team2 by 5 but team2 beats team1 by 7 then team 2 would get the #1 seed)

Every district has set by-laws by which they operate. They can choose to vote to change them every single year if they really wanted to. The TSSAA has absolutely NO SAY in these matters nor do they care. All they want it four teams to go to the region tournament. That is why many districts give a "bye" in the tournament that already qualifies a team for the region.

 

You can vote not to even have a district tournament if you want to, just take the top four regular season teams to the region. Of course, they discourage that because they want that 18% gross of the tournament gate. Or you could just play a tournament at the end of the season without having played a single district regular season game. It is 100% up to each individual district.

 

 

 

Football is the only sport where you are required to play your region opponents in the regular season.

I was once a coach in a district where we did not play everyone every year. We just seeded on records. It is true that it is up to each district.
