Now back to California on the kid beyond his years...

In case you missed this...

To put his youth into perspective, Aaron Pico is already six to eight years younger than most of the top candidates for the U.S. Olympic team. If he wins gold in 2016 at the age of 19, he'd be the youngest to do so in more than a century of Olympic wrestling history.

The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) is proud to announce the 2014 NHSCA High School Academic All Americans for the 20132014 school year. This year marks the 21st year in which the NHSCA has honored those who triumph both in and out of the classroom.

This year’s selection totals 121 Academic All Americans. These student athletes hail from 27 states and an American school in Germany. This year’s honorees excel in eight different sports. The total breakdown is as follows: 10 Freshman, 13 Sophomore, 42 Junior, and 56 Senior student athletes.

Not only do they excel on the playing field, wrestling mat, court, or track, but they also excel in the classroom. These student athletes are leaders in and out of the classroom and are the future leaders of tomorrow. We are very proud to deem them as Academic All Americans for 2014â€, stated Bobby Ferraro, Executive Director of the NHSCA.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
