This match is considered one of the greatest matches in NCAA Finals history. Both wrestlers went on to become 1984 Olympic Champions. Mark Shultz won the 1985 and 1987 Worlds, and also was a 1988 Olympian....

Many of today's very best Big Names boosted their careers in wresting with basic Camps, then intensive Camps.

 

Learn a system from some of these guys who have had results, and you too will have the same results.  Your training is based off of their very own proven systems  ...ONLY then, can you have REPRODUCIBLE results…. which I have seen for 35 years+ here in Tennessee and beyond. 

 

This is the same successful approach that has built the largest corporations in the world, the most successful athletic programs in the world, and created successes in all walks of life. 

 

– tactics, mindset, mental edge and seemingly tons of other little things..

 

As I go and watch matches, commonly I see missed basics. It seems like some these ambassadors to the sport have forgotten about tactics and mindset even outside of our state, at times. What's happened to arm levers, navy rides, decoys or chain style set ups and many other effective counters.

 

Many times things are taught, but not reinforced and drilled daily.

 

With many Tn officials calling stalling more quickly now,,, how about riding to score, takedowns to back points, always positioning to never get called for stalling which can be critical in the outcome of that big match.

 

As a coach tries to build a new program with no real tradition or experience to draw from, it can be quite difficult to instill the basics and then the state hardware skills necessary in a four year time period. Parents and middle school coaches and/or family/friend sponsers should think about this, better yet,,, Take Action...

 

Imagine a high school baseball coach trying to teach kids to field ground ball, hit the ball to the opposite field and all the subtle nuances of baseball if the kids had never played the game, and never even seen the game played on TV. That’s what wrestling coaches are faced with in this neck of the country.

Don’t just work hard and think you are getting better in wrestling.  Just because you are ‘busy being busy’ does  NOT mean you are ‘busy being productive’.

No. 1-ranked high school wrestlers commit to ASU

Zahid and Anthony Valencia, ranked No. 1 nationally in their high school weight classes by Flo Wrestling, are the first commitments for new Arizona State wrestling coach Zeke Jones.

 

Zahid was 36-0 at 132 pounds as a junior at St. John Bosco (Calif.) High School with brother Anthony, also a junior but one year older than Zahid, going 33-0 at 170. They had a combined 39 pins on their way to their second state titles.

 

They announced their commitments to ASU on Monday and will begin their college careers in 2015-16. Anthony, though, will train at ASU from June 22-July 3 during a USA Wrestling World team training camp. He is on the American team that will compete at the Junior World Championships, Aug. 5-10 in Zagreb, Croatia.

 

Omar Delgado, coach at St. John Bosco, said the Valencia brothers "took my program to another level" and will help ASU to contend for a national title. "They have strong character, faith, all the things you usually here that sound cliche but they embody. I've seen guys far more talented physically, but these guys outwork anybody."

 

Jones was hired in April to replace Shawn Charles and less than two months later has parlayed his credentials as former USA Wrestling national freestyle coach into a recruiting coup.

 

"It was perfect timing with Zeke coming," Delgado said. "Before then they were looking at Ivy League schools, Iowa, Oklahoma State. They want to be Olympians, win four NCAA titles and get a degree. Who better to guide them than Zeke Jones. The Valencia boys are going to attract other wrestlers who want to be part of what Zeke is building."
