I picked coalfield to win the whole thing but wouldn't be surprised to see oneida upset them on Thursday.

If I'm not mistaken oakdale played with meigs to the wire in both games. Granted the first game at meigs the score doesn't reflect the play, but oakdale had the lead late in the 4th before Meigs got a couple 3's then foul shots proceeded making the game a 10 point or so win.

 

The game at oakdale was even closer and meigs escaped with a 5 point win. So saying that both teams get trounced, to me, is saying a little much. There is a reason people pay admission to watch games and that is for one team to play the other team to the final buzzer sounds and then someone is announced the winner.

 

Everyone has an opinion I suppose. May as well crown district 3 as World Beaters.

anything can happen in HS hoops, but meigs has beaten them twice and is playing much better now than they were then. District 3 overall is a good bit better....certainly a team from 4a on the right night could win...but I'd give district 3 a distinct edge with meigs and grace at the top. Certainly I think oakdale has the best shot. Jellico has a terrible record outside of district and yet finished with one loss in district. OS even worse outside district. Coalfield is OK, but probably just too young overall.... Playing 4 freshmen a good bit not a good recipe in postseason.

But are we considering who that Jellico has played? Because I looked at their schedule and it seems quite a bit harder than everyone else. Also you can't say Jellico shouldn't be a favorite considering they lost the 1st place seeding in a coin toss.

VOL - They also lost to the team that beat them. Not just the coin toss.

I can see each of the first round games being close, with the exception that Jellico should not have a terrible time with Sunbright.  Oneida could give Coalfield some problems if they come prepared to play and OS/Wartburg could go right down to the wire.  The Indians have just enough pieces to have a go at it.....they have had Sharp back for a couple of games but he has to get in a better flow.....it was obvious he is a little rusty when he got back.  They have to take care of the ball in the game or Coalfield can send them home with their season over.  Hope they play with an edge.  If you like horse racing then Wartburg/OS will be the one to watch.  They both like to play fast.  Wartburg may have a slight advantage in their own gym.

Oops.....that might square it up a bit.  You really can't tell with these two....I've seen them run hot and cold this year.  They each have solid wins and they each have some head scratcher. (for that matter, several teams do...!)  Who do you think will win that match-up, Vegas?

I think the home teams survive in the first round.  I wouldn't be surprised if all were close games, including the sunbright/jellico game.

I'm not sure the Jellico game will be close. The os/wb game will be the game to watch. I think os is just to big for them to match up with and when it comes to the speed of the game, I think os will slow it down and wb does not like to be slowed down and the game will be a low scoring affair. Os wins.

 

Cf/Oneida - if cf comes into the game thinking they just beat this team a week ago then they may be in trouble. Oneida has a shot it might be bleak but they will come to play. Oneida has nothing to lose. Cf with all that talent has everything to lose especially with the Returning mvp of the tourney last year. Gasp!!

Want to finish with a wimper or a bang.  Don't know if we can keep the dike from bursting tonight.  Be nice to get a few more practices/games in through next week.  I guess I'll just leave it to the basketball gods......!

Coalfield has struggled against oneida both times this year. Both games coalfield has had to pull away in the fourth qtr. If it happend once I'd say it was a fluke but both times mean oneida had something to do with it. I'll still take coalfield just because I'm a homer but an upset wouldn't be a total shock to me.
