Beech at Mount Juliet

Funny thing is eers said a few weeks ago that this was the best defensive squad Beech has had in years.

Crow is tasting especially good right now too.  However, I have always said Beech wasn't built on defense (see two state title years).

The defense I saw at Henry County hasn't been in the stadium again and covering anyone on the edge has been out of the question.  I will agree this Beech team isn't playing very good right now.  The best two corners have been lost to knee injuries, it hurts, but you'll hear no excuses and I will quietly order another serving of crow...

No offense but I did not think that defense was that great anyway. Now the running game in the 2 games I saw was fabulous.

Matchup looks to be pretty even..... Let me break it down as best as I can.....

Edge for MJ- passing game, stopping the pass, special teams.

Edge for Beech- running game, stopping the run, and O-line/D-line.

With that being said our kicker has missed about 8 field goals already, but he can drive it through the endzone. Our QB is solid, just not too many athletes to work with. Beech has the better run game along with a bigger O-line. As for both defenses, par to sub-par. This will truly be a game for the hungrier. My gut tells me Beech will win, but the homefield advantage should factor in.

Could very well be a shootout!

If one of these teams win district it will be a shock, just being honest. I support Coach T and staff 100 percent, but I have to admit when we just don't have the skill, size, and speed to pull

I am stunned with a school the size of MJ, one of the largest in the state and fastest growing, that the size isn't there.  Looking at the roster on the website, not many kids over 6'/230.  Hopefully that'll change for you before next year when the 32 6A format goes into effect.  Your line has to get bigger to compete against those squads down the road in Rutherford County.  Blackman's line (D/O) could step in for most JUCO squads.

I like the spread offense vs the wing T; especially with the players we have.

The Bears have good athletes; just not any burners; but several that can make plays. This is a great ball control offense and can put points on the board. The Bears just need to play smart and not beat themselves with penalties and turnovers.

Go Bears !

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
