Impressive win for Dresden. The beat a good McKenzie team handily. Going to make Dresden much better turning Quincy loose as a play maker (which he is very good at). Then if a D wants to concentrate on him you have Athom, Williams, and Warren as options. Quincy and Yates in backfield. Scoring shouldn't be a problem this year.

The connection of quarterback Dresser Winn to Quincy McDonald, who was the quarterback last year, was difficult for opposing defenses to stop."

Dresden will be able to throw it around this year.  They have several kids that can catch it.  Scoring will not be a problem.  I just hope the defense is as good as I am hearing.

Throwing it around is good and bad IMO. Good to have the capability to score quickly but bad cause the other team can score quickly on a pick six. I'm hoping we have a good balance of run mixed in. Pound the ball until they move the secondary up to help, then bust them deep with a pass. Sounds easy enough in theory, I guess, but much harder to do. Should be a fun team to watch this year.

Winn had one pick six his freshman year.  It just happen to be against UC and at a terrible time.
The pick six just doesn't happen very often.  Secondly, the lions are not built for ground and pound.  I believe they will run it because Rang realizes you have to be able to run the football to open up the pass.  But in Dresden's case this year the pass will open up the run.

We also had a huge int in the end zone against Humboldt his freshman year that was returned 50 or 60 yards. I understand that Dresden isn't built for ground and pound and really hasn't had the line play for it, since I've been watching (besides Josh Turnbow). It's just in HS football the running team typically has the advantage (ask TCA last two years). I really think this next two years will be Dresden's chance to go further than any other Dresden team ever has, and after 2012 that would be gold. But being one dimensional without very good line play wont make it. Just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like.........

That whole class of 13 OL was good. Morgan was strong as an ox. Turnbow was a genius and strong plus Blessed with a great frame. Parsley and kemp had exceptional speed for guards. And seat was no slouch.

Three things can happen when you throw the ball, and two of them are bad. I think we'll be fine though lol

Dresser and Dresden will do great. I believe this may be hevy's year to predict correctly.

We had 2,000 yards rushing last year and 3,500 passing. Pretty balanced I would say!

How did I know you would jump on that comment? You did have (and still do) a good RB but normally when I think of TCA I think of Aikin trowing it around. Is he playing college ball anywhere?

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
