I understand the statement about the TSSAA not being able to monitor the length of practices.  That is just like the NCAA has no way of MONITORING illegal recruiting practices in college, but they punish schools rather frequently in many different sports.

It comes down to this.  Will you follow what the rule is or do you say screw it, I'm not changing anything from the way I've done in the past.  Coaches WILL CHANGE.  Will all of them change and follow the rules to the letter of the law, NO.  And hopefully those that don't follow will NOT HAVE any serious injuries that will cost a coach his/her job.

Guys, 50 years ago old coaches thought water at practice would ruin the game, making players soft.  Last time I looked the game was still doing good!

You can still get plenty of live, full speed contact work in a week's time by folowing the rules, i.e., HOLDING a dummy does not stop live contact work, it can go on forever; or at least that is the way I read the rule.

I don't think y'all realize how long most coaches actually go full contact. It's not that long. The average play is 10 secs or less. So 6 plays a minute. Being in the huddle and or coaching in between plays is not full contact. Take 6 plays a minute and multiply it by 30 minutes. No team in America practices with 180 full contact snaps a week.

On the other hand where I am most coaches go light on Sunday , heavy but short on Monday due to JV, Heavy on Tuesday, Team thud on Wed and helmets only scripted on Thursday. That being said if someone can get 180 plays in a week I wanna come watch your practice cause you have to be one heck of a Genius.

This rule will affect summer practice installs and 2 a days

The point I'm trying to make is who is going to police it? Self policing? Get real not everybody is going to go along with this, and go by the rules. And the rule is not that big of a deal, but some people are just not going to obey it.

I go to the official rules meeting about it soon. I'm very intrested in what the fine print says.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
