I'm not familiar with Region 3-AAA, I am from Middle/West TN. Who is the favorite to win the Region Championship? How does EH and WV compare to Oakland and Blackman (sub-state match ups) in your opinion?

Walker Valley finished the season 4th in District 5AAA with a 7-5 record & East Hamilton was tied for 2nd @ 9-3.

They split this year with East Ham winning by 6 at home in January & WV winning by 16 at home in February.

Bob Williams usually get his teams to peak at tournament time, so I would put WV as a slight favorite at a neutral site.

However, WV lost their 2 best players from last year & are not as talented as the team that went to the Glass House last March. No idea how they will fare in the Sectionals.

FootballFan, thanks.

No doubt WV or EH want to win to stay away from Blackman, but Oakland has shot the ball well recently. Biggest difference from the Blaze and the Patriots is experience. Oakland has had 1 freshman and 2 sophomores playing the majority of the game in recent contests. Blackman is senior led and is definitely the better of the two.

Coaching wise, Workman has done done wonders since being at Blackman.

Bond at Oakland has now been to 7 (maybe 8) Sectionals since opening the basketball program at Wilson Central in 2001.

Looking forward to each Sectional, Good Luck to all teams.

Hoping for great games!

hard to fathom that Cleveland beat East Hamilton by 30 in the District Championship & they are not going to Sectionals...

that's the beauty of the tournament. I knew we would struggle to beat WV for a 4th time, they played us better than anyone in district 5. They were due to get us. Edited by clevelandblueraiderfan

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
