Being enrolled and moving are two different things.   Most SCS schools will enroll students without regard for where they live because they have open enrollment or are optional schools.   Once you have an athletic record with a state organization, there must be a change in residence, custody change, or parental job change for a student to be ruled eligible.  Ryan is a good kid.  He will be successful anywhere.

East is an optional school. There is no such thing as open enrollment in Shelby County.

I've heard his grades might be an issue for his eligibility.

East is ridiculous. I am glad they lay up to 3A. If I am in 3A and a coach that really wants to win a state title I am long for a job in 2A. As long as East is doing what they are doing, no other school has a chance!

East lost TJ Moss and Dude McCollum to transfer. Moss to Findlay and McCollum to Tennessee Prep. Boyce being ineligible stinks because he would have added a lot

Gaining Wiseman is a huge gain.

They'll be the best team in Tennessee and they will be good on a National level but part of me says they won't be as good as last year.

How is Boyce ineligible?

From what I heard and understand it is the new "coaching link" rule that went into play this year.

I've heard grades and the above as possible reasons. This is just what I've heard. We'll know the first day of practice.

But Penny doesn't coach neither his AAU team, he is the sponsor. That's what it says on paper

I don't know about that. I just heard that's what was.

This is how they define the link.

If a student with an athletic record transfers to a new school where an “athletic coaching link” existed in the past 12 months, that student is ineligible for 12 months at all levels in the specific sports where a linkage was present. Links may include (1) attendance at an individual camp (and then transferring); (2) playing on non-school (independent) teams (and then transferring to that coach’s school); (3) transferring into a school where a former coach has been hired; and (4) transferring to a school where a former or current personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach is employed. This rule does not apply if the student moves to his/her new schools after completion of the highest ending grade at his/her previous school.

Not that I know or have any knowledge, but the Wiseman one would really surprise me. His home school Ensworth has been continually promoting all of his accomplishments all summer on their IG account. Not many leave Ensworth either. Not saying it isn't happening or hasn't already happened. I don't know but I certainly would be very very surprised.

Surprise

TSSAA's ruling on this is going to be very interesting. (2) playing on non-school (independent) teams (and then transferring to that coach's school) does not clearly say the high school coach has to be the independent coach? Could being a member of the independent teams  organization count? If so there are a few other high school coaches that are members of other travel basketball organizations in Tennessee. This could get interesting.

    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
    • Now that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That has been going on heavily since the days of Larry Kerr @ AC. One of the major reasons CC has never really had much at all, barring about 2 seasons in football. AC milks it dry.
