In high school football year after year the talent set of kids changes, their size, speed, skills set, strength... you will find high school coaches trying to ask a kid to do a task that is not designed for that kid set of skill, the kid try to do it because he want to get on the field. You can't ask a slower person to do what a speedy person did and get the same results, yo can't ask a less than skillfully kid to do what a totally skill player do..you can ask a lineman to run 3yard to block a. Guy if he's not as good as the guy you had doing it before....

To be successful as a high school coach you got to adjust to your talent. And be willing to change your scheme of things, that will work for that team,,, as a coach it's good to have a roster of play calling in your  bag , just because your talent has change , you may have a 6'5 300lb all American lineman killing it. The guy taking his place maybe 6'0 200lb and weak, you can't make him what your all American lineman was, the same go for all positions..

High school coachs must learn how to use the cheat sheet. I know of only  a few coaches that  knew how to win and adjust with what he have  for as talent and he won a couple  state title because of this, you be thinking  his team has no one coming back, then he whip your but.....one of those coaches is Will Hester formally Ravenswood,   Kreisey from Oakland ,  Rankin from Alcoa, and Fitzgerald Hillsboro......they will beat you with a one legged dude, all that one legged side had to do is just stand in a certain spot..

Coaches  please  adjust to your talent

It has been said many times before but the key to being a successful high school coach is to get your average players to play better than your competitions average players.  The good players are going to do their thing but in the end they will cancel each other out.   You must make your average players better than the other teams average players.

Fitzgerald huh? Interesting. Never heard anyone talk about his X's & O's. Helps when you have unlimited availability to players in MidTN on your side. John Henderson ain't walking through that door.

What about Ingle Martin from CPA? Hatfield from Hville? Crabtree from Beech? Saulsberry from Whitehaven? McDaniel from Christian Brothers? Rector from FR? There are numerous guys I'd rank above Fitzgerald in terms of pure coaching. But ultimately it's about the Jimmy's & Joe's not so much the X's & O's
