You’ve got to play and beat the best to earn respect. 10-0 on a JV schedule doesn’t quite do it. If you beat Riverdale, Blackman/Cookeville, we’ll be a little more warm to the idea.

How do these regions matchup? Lets take a look at what they done in non-region games.

In Region 4 you had Mt. Juliet go 5-0 in non-region games and 2-0 against 6A teams McGavock and Overton. The other 3 playoff teams went 8-7 in non-region games and 5-3 against 6A teams. Those 5 wins were against 6A teams that went a combined 13-37.

In Region 3 the four playoff teams went 16-0 in non-region games. They went 8-0 against 6A teams with the average margin of victory being 24 points.

Then you can also go head-to-head as Coffee County beat Lebanon and Blackman beat Hendersonville by 35.

I'll just say congrats to Coach Gentry and the Blue Devils for a 5-5 season and a playoff berth! 

Given how the last several seasons have went this is a major step up for the Blue Devil program! 

Tough draw 1st round yes. But enjoy it! Y'all have earned it! Good things in the future.

Agreed. MJ has earned respect, has approached each game like it was a playoff game. That can be hard to do when your program reaches elite status

Yes a job well done. If it wasn't for MJ's unbeaten regular season, Gentry would be hands down COY in his region. Could make the argument that he still should be

You've factored out Master Teague who scored like 5 Tds that game against Hville... nice try though.

He scored 3 touchdowns against Hendersonville. You take away his touches and Blackman still had 312 yards of offense and 42 points.... That is completely taking 19 snaps out of that offense.

He pretty much played in 4 games this year (he only had 5 touches against Smyrna). He had 697 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing and 68 yards and 1 touchdown receiving and they went 3-1 in those games.

Without him they went 5-1 and in the other 5 games (I don't have the stats for last nights game) Blackman averaged 112 yards passing, 263 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns on offense.

They have 5 other players on that roster that average over 7 yards per carry. Their QB has around 500 yards and averages 7 yards per carry. They have another WR/RB that has around 600 yards and averages 9 yards per carry.

So yeah without Teague they probably don't beat Hendersonville by 35. Its probably by 21-28.
