Hands are not always inside shoulder pads-OL hands on outside but not a handful of jersey-looks like tremendous upper body strength but it's a twisting take down-I think its holding but was not called so maybe I'm wrong-the games I saw all of the OL were doing it so it's definitely a technique

I haven't watched the film but Warrior Son #1 was an OL so I've gone down this path of holding vs. not-holding many a time.  What you're describing--if I understand it correctly--sounds like holding.  Having a handful of jersey is NOT a requirement for a holding call; in fact most holding calls probably don't involve a handful of jersey--(it's easier to see and get called though if officials see a jersey stretch).  If the OL puts his hands on the outside of the defender's arms and grabs enough to twist the defender's upper body, that should draw a flag.  If the OL hooks the defender's arm to take him down, that's holding.  If the OL hooks the defender's side under the arm and twists for a takedown that's probably holding too.

Thanks Warriors- you have answered my question and I agree.  I think kids are so driven for pancake blocks this occurs and should be called. I can see the DL getting driven back and getting pancaked, but not the above.  Thanks again

not no irish gettin caught on film being pancake

Watched a little film on both of these....

While the demise of Webb has been greatly exaggerated, CPA is better. Webb is faster, but CPA is bigger and better in the trenches and solid in every facet of the game.

BUT! If Webb's #15 is healthy and gets 20+ carries, then they can win. Nobody on CPA can touch him if he turns the corner.

I watched some film of both as well. I had a hard time judging the size and line play because CPA's film was a much wider shot. Of course they throw it more so they don't need to be as tight as Webb's film but I couldn't even read the jersey numbers of the players. What is the line size of CPA? I'm sure they are bigger than Webb's.

CPA is the favorite, I agree but Webb can win this game. Anytime you have home run hitters in the backfield all bets are off.

Still waiting to see if a key starter for Webb will be able to go Friday.

Howard turned the corner one time against your Irish and he scored on a 75 yard run and left everyone (including your own speedster Cameron Wynn). Unfortunately, it was called back by a very questionable holding call 10 miles away from the play.

The key to ND's victory was not letting him or Jahlil Jefferson #13 turn the corner by hitting them before they got started (Which I believe was the point of Kublah). That and of course some sloppy special teams from Webb.

While ND and CPA are the favorites to win these quarterfinal games this is one bracket that I wouldn't be surprised if either Webb or Grace pulled the upset. Got some good football going on in the top bracket. The bottom side of the DII-AA bracket seems to be a little easier. I doubt anyone will challenge Lausanne until the State Championship.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
