I disagree zoneread. In the past decade you have had BA, MBA, and Ensworth who have all been really good teams. Could they beat teams like Maryville, Oakland, and Whitehaven during that time period? Would they own them? How about Father Ryan and JPII, could they beat those three public schools much less own them. D2II and now D3III has been very top heavy but overall it is no better than the best public school ball across the state.

Baylor and McCallie are typically top programs as well. It would be them just a notch below Maryville, Whitehaven, and Oakland most years but any year they would be a tough out for almost everybody. MUS, CB, are also really good. You mentioned the two weakest in the division who typically still beat up on their non-conference foes while getting toasted by division foes.

Any typical year this is what you typical see from the large D2 schools

*BA, MBA, Ensworth would only be challenged by the very top 6A schools but would smoke just about everyone else.

*McCallie, Baylor, MUS, CBHS, would handle just about any school not in 6A (of course there would be a few exceptions such as Knoxville Catholic this year) and they would be a challenge to beat for almost any 6A school outside of the top ones (Maryville, Oakland, Whitehaven) I do think typically Maryville Oakland and Whitehaven are a step above these but there have been some years where all of these programs would have been able to play and beat these schools.

*PJPII Father Ryan, would be a tough out for most 3A and 4A schools. Although Alcoa and Greenville would have their way with them typically. PJPII and Father Ryan would shock their fair share of 5A and weaker 6A schools as well. They are no where close to the level of the elite 6A, 5A, and 4A schools IMO.

These games would be great! I wish these school could agree to play and end this debate.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
