Brief background: As they do for both "Mr. Football" and "Mr. Basketball", the purpose of these awards is to accomplish the same recognition in wrestling.  Going forward, it is my hope that the "Wrestlers of the Year" from each region will be the Nominees each year, and will be voted on for these end of the year awards.

2017-2018 Girls Wrestler of the Year

2017-2018 A/AA Wrestler of the Year

2017-2018 AAA Wrestler of the Year

2017-2018 Division 2 Wrestler of the Year

River also beat Seven Richards of Cass(look up his credentials)in the finals of McCallie Invitational and River also won Prep Slam over another highly regarded wrestler in the finals. River was undefeated when he broke his ankle in the finals of a tournament in Ohio that required an injury default and season ended surgery. River was currently nationally ranked number one in preps and ranked pretty high in the nation as a heavyweight.

Did he win state? Seems to me that the wrestler of the year should have finished the year. If not, where do you draw the line to say he wrestled "enough" to win the award?

2 things.

first, D2 needs to be Mason. There’s nobody on his level.

Second, I think AAA should be Palmer. Kramer is great, but If Kramer was a 113 I think Palmer wins. He’s just so technically gifted. I’d take him p4p over anyone in D1

Like Hamm said, there are many that are deserving of this award. I appreciate that you think that much of Brayden. If Kramer was 113, I guarantee you that he would win by default. There is NO way Brayden steps on a scale that low. On a serious note, I’m related to Brayden, and see no issues with Kramer receiving this award. I personally think that him or Kramer should have also received the OW for the state tournament as well considering they were the only two wrestlers to win every match by bonus points in AAA. However, after falling in the finals his first two years, he got the only award he wanted Saturday by standing on top of the podium.

I totally meant 120. Don’t know why I put 113. I agree that Kramer is deserving, and I’m not taking anything away from him, just saying my vote would be for Brayden. I really don’t think anyone can beat him p4p in AAA. Just my personal opinion. I also agree that in the end, Brayden got the big award he wanted. I would’ve just voted for Brayden. I figured you were related to him. Based on past posts. I’ve got an idea of who a handful of people are based on posts. Funny thing is LBJ, I’ve actually know each other. I’ve had the pleasure of being around the whole family a lot in the past.. My younger brother used to wrestle with Brayden for the generals. So ive had the honor of watching Brayden compete and grow in the sport since he was in elementary school

    • And that needs to go, Charter ,private ,magnet, city and any school that operates differently than pure public schools should be separated. What really needs to be done is address urban and rural. About all the usual powers have access to several kids from other schools period.
    • Sad deal. Hate it. So the coach that kicked her off is now fired??
    • Slightly off topic from a gender standpoint but just observed several boys volleyball games in the Knoxville area for a short spring season. The guys seemed to have a great time. There were several club players on each team but several football, basketball and tennis players involved. Knoxville Catholic, Maryville, Heritage, Knoxville West maybe William Blount had teams. Thanks to Coach Brent Carter from Knoxville Catholic/K2 for getting it together. I’m sure the coaches involved got several laughs trying to coach guys that really had no idea what they were talking about but pretty athletic and competitive. Catholic’s best basketball player told the coach he had played a lot of 2:3 and 1:3:1 but never a 3:3 LOL Maybe it will catch on with some more schools next year.
