Sorry if someone started a topic already but I searched and couldn't find one. What about the Lions? We going to be any good or what? Figure Lake County is the team to beat this year in our region. I haven't heard a ton except it doesn't look great for another Gold ball, or silver. :(

Were all chasing Lake Co in region 7. They will be a top 2-3 team in 1-A this year. Who all do you have back besides Yates? Replacing Nanney will be a task

Yates, T Jones will be the playmakers. Haven't heard if Yates or Crawford will be QB. Think they are moving my nephew to OLB but he is no Nanney. I'm so far out of the loop now I'm not really sure who we have. Nephew is spending this week with me in Florida so I'll quiz him.

I’m not sure if they will be one of the three best teams, but I’d say at least top 5-6 overall  In the east Greenback will be better than they were last season. SP and Whitwell will also be quality teams.

You'd be hard pressed to find 5 teams better than LC. 19-20 starters returning from a semifinals team is tough to catch for#2.

I know they will be a good team. I just think they are a top 5-6 team. The three best teams in the east along with Cornersville, Wayne, and Huntingdon all have a lot of good players returning.

I agree Lake County got beat by Cornersville in the semis and Cornersville would have been a 4th Place team on the east side last year at best.Coalfield and South Pitt were both better than they were as far as my opinion goes. Lake County will be a quality opponent this year no doubt but I don't know if they're a top-three. I think Greenback should you be your preseason number 1 with South Pitt at number 2,and Whitwell/Wayne county/Hunt at the 3, then so on and so forth.JMO.

You are correct on all counts. They will be a very good team this year. I would put them in top 3 to start year

A lot of athletic ability in Tiptonvile, but I’m not sure they have the line to be a top 3 team this season. I’m thinking they have one of the 3 best teams in the west, but can’t quite put them ahead of a few in the east quite yet. That’s where my top 5-6 comment comes from. One thing about it.. if you’re that close to the top then you usually have a chance. We’ve been like them many times in the past with an adequate line, but great skill position players. Greenback should be head and shoulders the best team in 1A with what they have returning and the amount of space between them and the rest of 1A last season.

I'll put them in at 3 based on what they return. They was the most athletic team we faced last year and the second best overall team we played. Number 42 ( I believe he was a senior )for them was the best player we saw all season. Now before everyone gets their panties in a wad.....he may have just played lights out against us but I will tell you that on that night he was the best player I saw all year. I will pick them to take the west this year.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
