A lot of good teams were in Knoxville this past weekend (40 in varsity).  Brentwood beat a team out of NC in 3 sets to win the championship.  Brentwood JV beat Farragut to win the JV championship.  Paige had a great tournament with only one loss.  The craziest stat of the tourny is Siegel went 1-4 with their only win against Bretwood.

Heaven only knows what is going on in that district, with the exception of Brentwood's continued dominance. (In other news, the sun rose today...)

I just hope for Brentwood's sake their out of town play keeps them sharp. The in-district schedule seems monotonously easy for them.

The in-district is weak this year.  Brentwood played some very good competition last week in Hoover.  I believe there were at least 4, possibly 5 defending state champions (TN 2, AL 2, GA 1) in that tournament. Brentwood lost in the finals to Alabama's 7A champs.  They were an outstanding team.  Miami in two weeks then Atlanta to wrap up their non-TSSAA tournaments.

TT, how many matches is Brentwood going to play before the year is out, do you think? That seems like an awfully busy schedule.

18 games on the schedule, 4 travel tournaments (avg 6 games a tourny) so that's 42 games before the playoffs begin.  If you factor in the three  preseason play days, they'll play approx 55 games before playoffs.  The good thing is they are healthy

3 prob is too many.  But 4 def is too many.   It actually has to do with how long the days are.  It's really insane to play for 12 hours.  College teams don't play as many matches and would never play from 8am-8pm on a Saturday.  If you look at other states---good volleyball states--nobody plays 55-60 matches in a season.  You disagree?

You are in the wrong tournaments if you are playing 12 hour days.   We have yet to have a 12 hour day in high school tournaments.  Club ball, yes.  But not high school.  I could see if you have a weaker roster that these tournaments can be a grind but Brentwood plays all ten players so being tired is not an issue.

I take clifford's point. Truth is, the high school season is  sprint, not a marathon, and 40 matches over the course of 2+ months is probably too many. TT, I had also forgotten the 3 (only 3?) play days before the season, so wow, that plus 4 tournaments plus regular season, plus your eventual playoff run, that is a lot.

The reason why this is potentially problematic is that kids this age don't (and shouldn't) train for this kind of volume of activity. But also, if the body does start to break down, the athlete / family / coach usually don't realize it in the moment. Instead, you get things like stress fractures and shoulder issues that manifest themselves gradually, and only become real problems after the fact.

I'm glad to hear everyone is healthy.

    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
