Who are the best teams going to be this year regardless of class ?? I am sure East & Bearden will be among them. Who else and why?

Hard to say because you never know about high school kids. Teams may have a kid grow 4 inches in a year... lol

however, the teams that traditionally win will always be good. Southside, Humboldt, East, Melrose, Haywood, and Melrose from West TN.

I think in single A this year everybody in the West TN area will be chasing Trenton Peabody and Humboldt. Middleton and UC will be down.

in AA I think South Side and South Gibson are the teams to beat. Crockett County should be in the mix too. Haywood may emerge but that's a huge question mark. Ripley and Covington should be solid still.

What about Mitchell and Melrose?

Watch out for Upperman in the next few years. A loaded freshman class won the district in 2018 lead by two very quick freshman guards and a 6'6 freshman post player. They add a incoming 6'5 post player this season. I could see this front line being around 6'7 to 6'8 in next new couple years with multiple guards raining threes and running the court well.  The 2018-19 will be about 8-9 kids deep seeing the floor.

if those kids grow to 6'7" and 6'8" with a couple good guards they will win for sure. Are they really that tall though? Most of the time you can take at least an inch off.

Yes they are 6'6 soph, and a 6'5 freshman at the start of school.  And at 14-15yo, most boys grow until 18-19yo.  Right now the strength of the team is the guard play, but you can't ignore young size like that.

They have a 6'5" sophomore. No 6'5" freshman that I've seen. A 6' 1" freshman coming from Upperman middle. They do have a couple of very talented guards. I look for them to be good this season as well a few more down the road. Everyone including me over looked them last season. I do not think that will be the case this season.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
