Marley is one of the most accomplished, decorated and respected coaches in Tn., and USJ ran him off... Bradley did the (almost) impossible at CAK and took down mighty Alcoa with his offensive wizardry to attract the attention of the USJ administration, and as soon as he became aware of the "environment" there, he left like a scalded cat at the earliest opportunity. All that Stroup did to catch USJ's eye as an up and coming great coach was transform a "new" and terrible team into a threat to beat anyone in our classification within three short years, knocked the undefeated and #1 ranked team out of the playoffs, reached the state quarterfinals, and was voted West Tn. Coach Of The Year. For you to resort to labeling them losers as for the reason a few entitled boosters want influence and control over the football program is ridiculous.

USJ has bought and paid for their previous lessons with Marley and Bradley... they should at least try and learn something from them, and let Stroup fail or succeed all on his own... they have nothing to lose but success.

Trader the only thing that worries me is him being the AD now makes that target so much bigger for the powers that be

Yup, the administration and a few boosters/parents made a bed for themselves when they fired Marley...and now they're laying in it. Reminds you of UT after Fulmer.

As for the rest: I have no connection to the program, just going by what I've seen. The great thing about football is the film doesn't lie. I do hope they get it turned around. Coach Stroup seems like a good man. And anyway this is high school ball not SEC or the pros so let's take it easy on everyone.

LOL... I thought that I was being easy! Sure, I said some harsh things, but directed them at only "a few entitled boosters" and maybe vaguely at "USJ administration". Laying blame or vilifying anyone in particular for past failures (or what USJ viewed as not good enough) was not my intent at all, it was to validate my viewpoint about outside influences hampering the very thing that everyone there proclaims as their ultimate goal. Stroup is capable of building USJ into a perennial threat to win their classification, provided that all decisions regarding football are left to be made solely by him, and supported by all involved.

If USJ wants a man of character leading their athletic department, they have their wish... if they want a figurehead to present to the public, yet plan to do business as usual (as with Marley), it won't work out at all.

Definitely not the team to beat. Will be a decent team in a very weak classification but doesn’t have near enough skill to compete for a championship.

Well if a Davidson Academy is not the team to beat in D2A out of the West, who is? After all, you are Mr. Football

none other than the thorn in your side, USJ.

Usj, the number one team in the region? I don't think so. At best, I believe they will finish fourth in the region behind Davidson Academy, Columbia Academy, and Nashville Christian. If usj is not careful Fayette Academy could sneak up on them as well.

I also hear that there might be some address checks over in Bruinville. That Childress man might just come a knocking at the new front gate.

But who am I to shake that bush?

I meant that for both of us ;)

But after these first couple scrimmages it looks like the gloves are going to be off and the knives out for everyone by about week 3!

At least the D-II board will be interesting this year

There ya have it folks, a bears fan is butt hurt because someone said they wouldn’t win the championship. Since your dying for me to make a prediction I’ll pick Friendship.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
