Looks like Mr. Rankin got thrown onto the Hot Seat this morning by the article on the front page of "The Daily Times". Couple of school board members wanting his scalp and not being shy about it.

BC that article made Alcoa look like Chit all over a White Goat. There isn't a person in town that hasn't formed an opinion over this now and it's never good. Some say that this will be swept under the rug, baloney. The Fish Wrap opened the gate and let the horses out yesterday.

Lol! Since this is a sports message board and we're on the football side of it, wanting to talk about wheels on the bus falling off a program..........lets talk about the Maryville Rebels Last game!:thumb:

BC I have a closet full of been there done that T Shirts I will be glad to give you on what will happen next. If you want to switch the conversation to the last game I will be glad to tell you our line was no match. Was no match against Alcoa either if that will make you feel better. The jury is out right now with me regarding the line and looking forward to the first scrimmage to see if it was just a bad group or did the absence of Mr. Ellis make that big of a difference.

I thought Dr. Bell handled the meeting and the questions very intelligently, very respectfully, very professionally and his explanations  were very rational and logical. The school board member that was quoted as saying he "disagrees with that" regarding it was ok for good students to transfer in, was later quoted as saying "well who gives a rat's, ..before trailing off" and even admitted that the tuition students help raise academic scores, after he was complaining that they were not putting a priority on academics, did not sound professional, rational or logical in the least.

Several friends of mine that are not from Blount county read the article. Especially with the two board members having the same last name, almost all of them made the comment that this seemed personal not professional and had nothing to do with academic concerns or the best interest of the children.

A logical , inquisitive person can infer pretty quickly what the real issue  is.

Some folks can't handle competition.

The article made two school board members look like fools. Nothing else.

Did you even read the whole article? Also, who can't handle competition? Are you saying people who work for Alcoa City Schools dont want to see their teams succeed?

    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
