Covington at McNairy Central

The teams had a battle in last year's playoffs and now will face each other in a berth in the state playoffs. Can McNairy's defense contain Covington's speed on offense and kickoff coverage? The Bobcats have averaged over 40 points a game, so Covington will have to work hard on defense as well.

Covington is a really good team. They are kind of in a funk right now with back to back losses. It would be really hard for me to pick a winner in this contest. I think it will be a great game. If McNairy beats that would end Covingtons season..... I would have bet a LARGE and do mean LARGE amount of cash that Covington would make the playoffs.... that's Region 7 3A for ya.

If McNairy wins, Westview has to win for Covington's season to end. McNairy and Milan wins means Covington is the 4 seed.

Covington has not been the same since we lost Caleb Winfrey at linebacker. As long as Winfrey was playing our D was only giving up an average of 5 points per game.

I hope that we can overcome that loss and go get a win in Selmer this week. I'll be there to support my Chargers, win or lose.

Still not bad though — Gave up 14 to Milan and 20 to SG and one of those was gift after punter went to knee on our 10 yard line!! We need to control ball against McNairy and not let their offense on the field.

Honestly, there is not much difference between 1-4 in this region. SGC won it because we have a large senior class that does not make silly mistakes and turnovers. All of the games that we played with the other 3 top teams in our region were within 1 score. I am not taking anything away from my boys because they are really good. They deserve, earned, and outright won the region championship.

I do not think most folks understand just how good this region is.

For the 2-4 spots in the playoffs....  We have been there a bunch of times. My only advice is just win baby! Win and you are in!

    • Yeah I am on board and plan on coming down from the Ridge for some home games, great Friday night atmosphere there.  I'm really hoping SC can get them back going and have some success for those fans and community.
    • Yep I was field level on the scoreboard end throwing ball with Benny when we had that brief lead. Everybody got very excited but it was short lived as Murvil regrouped and went into machine mode. But yeah,  that hit sounded like the crack of a black powder rifle being fire.  I believe Dozier took one like that as a Soph up at Greeneville after on olay block.
    • Ole Benny boy lol. I forgot about Harder. He was tough as crap. He graduated in ‘09. I went to the OR/Maryville game that year (great game, btw) and he collided with Jacob West (I think was his name) and you could hear it clearly at the top of the visitor bleachers. Man, it was a stick. He could lay some wood son. All those guys were tough, Elliott included.
    • They do have good community support for sure and did when I coached under Z for 4 years. (I was on that staff that turned them around a little from winning 1 game a year to actually being competitive).  Great Kids and Great Community over there.  They have done some good things with the facilities from when i coached too.
    • I personally will not mind that one bit.  It seems like a really strange fit to me from the git go.
