9 state champions

Do we really need 9 state champions? Games were okay, not great. How many classes do you think? Combine privates and public's?

Best you can hope for is 5 public and 2 private and even that is a long shot. Combining the the divisions will never happen

Can not mix private with public. It doesn’t take genius to figure that one out. It would make for some more interesting football to change the classes down to 3 but it isn’t fair.

Gold balls are already hard to get and pretty rare for most teams. Why would anyone argue for less chances to get one?

They are SUPPOSED to be hard to get.

I have been around football as a player, coach, or fan for 25 years.  Having watched the Title Games the last few years, here are some observations, that if we are being honest with ourselves, are absolutely accurate. 

The games were:

1. anti-climactic
2. not very competitive on the whole
3. you could combine 1A/2A, 3A/4A, 5A/6A and had similar results.  This year for example, Lake County likely wins 1A/2A finalists, Alcoa easily wins 3A/4A, and Maryville easily wins 5A/6A.

5 public and 2 Private would be ideal but it will never happen. Now we are going to add a class to public in all other sports. They think travel is bad now. Ha

It is pure insanity... we don't even have 300 football playing public schools, 3 classes would be plenty.  There would be some epic playoff games in ALL rounds.  We unequivocally do not need 192 schools going to the playoffs.  With 5 classes we would still have over half of all the football schools (160) getting in automatically and with 4 classes (128).  There is a reason March Madness is so exciting in college basketball 351 teams are vying for 68 tournament slots ~20% get in.

294 out of 300 don't get a state title in Division I, 47 out of 50  in Division II. They're not being given away.
