Sycamore Head Football Coaching Vacancy

If there is no football season then there will be no sports in 2020-2021 because the majority of schools wouldn't financially be able to support the other sports. Football is not just the cash cow for the TSSAA, it is the cash cow for all schools.

The data is trending in the right direction. We are finding out the virus is more prevalent and less deadly than the media would like for you to believe.

I think most know it is very similar to the flu especially in terms of death rate. I think the bigger fear is not having a treatment or a preventative shot.  Being one of those in the 60+ age range I am glad they are taking it seriously.  Scary stuff going on on this world. Everyone should read Revelations and it will shock you how accurate it is!

To answer your question, you only get two paid assistants and no financial backing either

No assistant coaches get paid.  That got decided a couple of years back.  It used to be 2 assistants got paid but not anymore.  They ain't hiring coaches with teaching jobs when they can get people from the county to volunteer their time and coach for free.  The out of pocket insurance cost is something else that you did not list.  Backing from the community ain't the problem because people from the community helping and giving their time is the only thing that keeps it going

Cheatham County Schools:

-0 paid assistants

- 0 moneys provided to the football program (other than lights on friday nights and water and they actually discussed charging the programs for that!)

-0 faculty coaches other than H.C. at SHS(2 seasons now)

- possibility of having HC Salary cut (discussions happened previous years and with COVID are a big possibility again)

-Rise in health insurance cost yearly ($5,000-$6,000 increase)

In my opinion these are just some of the reasons many coaches will not be interested in C.C. or why coaches will not be able to stay and build programs to their full potential.

Wow 2 paid assistants. That's pretty tough for even the best of coaches. Crazy.

I believe it was in 2003 when the assistant coaching stipends were cut and only 2 assistants were paid.  That lasted from 2003-2017.  In 2018 the decision was made to cut those stipends and as a previous poster stated now 0 assistant coaches are paid.

The insurance is free if you're single.  If you are married and have children that is where the new policy hits your pocket.  I know of one teacher who has told me personally that his insurance difference increased by $8,000+ annually when that change went into effect.

Someone will apply for and take the coaching job.  The county does have hard working, tough minded kids who will get after it.  That has always been the case at Cheatham County, Sycamore, and Harpeth.  They are enjoyable to coach and they'll always give you everything they have in order to compete and be successful.  There have been so many great football coaches who have came through the programs at the 3 schools in the county and gone on to do great things at other programs in the years that followed.  None of them will ever tell you that they didn't enjoy coaching the kids or that the kids didn't give maximum effort on the football field.  I've had personal conversations with coaches that go all the way back to the 1950s and that has always remained to be the case.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
