I was impressed with West. They may be the favorite in 5A.

Powell, AC, Oak Ridge and Central all looking pretty good to be in the mix.  West looked good, but it’s hopefully a long season and we will see who is still around to practice on Thanksgiving day.

Has to be concerning for Farragut that the entire defense is SR's except for 1. I'm surprised that this game was not closer, I expected a West win just not by this margin. They have address the offensive side of the ball as well, #20 will be beat up by the middle of the season if they can't get help moving the ball up the field.

Congrats to West. You guys have a very good team.

As a Farragut fan, the poor snaps (or manageable snaps that were mishandled by the QB) were just painful to watch - time and time again Farragut found themselves behind the chains in bad down and distance as a result. Maybe #20 should get some more QB reps with the open date?

Tackling, particularly from the secondary in run support, must get better.

Purcell is the best available at RB for sure, but he is only going to get so many reps there. It would be interesting to see what some of the other RBs bring to the table as well - Farragut could use some explosion and change of direction at running back.

From my perspective, the greatest concern is the offensive line - with only one returning starter and limited practice, I suppose that is to be expected. They definitely need to show more scrap and physicality moving forward. Personnel changes/relocations over the next couple of weeks might help... just my opinion. I would sure love to see #75 get some reps on the OL - he has a real future there IMO - not sure if that is doable, however, given his value to the DL. Finding a physical blocker at the TE position would be huge as well.

That is a fair assessment as they have limitations on the offensive side of the ball for sure. They lack speed at the skill positions outside of #20. Key in on him the others won't beat you.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
