No, several of those mistakes were unforced errors. Officiating was atrocious and if not for the no call on the blatant offensive pass interference, Beech still wins... with 6 turnovers and one of the worst games I’ve seen them play. There was a reason Powell would come to Beech even though they were supposed to play on the road at Greeneville.

All of that said, Powell beat them. It’s just a bit premature to say Powell is the 5A state champion and nobody wants any. Perhaps it’s biased, but I believe Beech is the better team and they won’t have another game this year at -6 in turnovers.

Im not saying Powell isn’t a good football team, they are. The QB is good and getting better. The WRs are really good as well (I personally believe the slot guys make the offense go). I saw a good team that night, but I didn’t see a state championship caliber team. From what I’ve seen, Beech has played two teams that I believe are better.

Who would those two teams be?

eers. Rhymes with my favorite thing. beers. I tend to agree that the Powell game isnt a true sign of neither of then two teams, and it could've went either way. Verdict is still out on Beech too, not a very disciplined team.

They’re young at a lot of positions and will continue to improve. It will be interesting to see if the two week COVID break has an impact on them moving forward.

My guess would be Henry County and Hendersonville

That’s my opinion based on what I’ve seen, but I haven’t seen the entire body of work either. Just as I believe Beech played terrible at Powell, that may not have been Powell’s best effort either.

I think if these two were to play again, we could throw the first game out the window. I would expect a totally different game from both sides. It was a sloppy first game for both squads that Beech should’ve won, but I think both teams have seen major improvements since then.

I would agree with this. I would also like to see this rematch...

Not anything specific, just there's lots of depth in 5a and a lot of things that can knock a team off the rails.  It's more likely that it won't happen then it will.

I’d have to agree. 5a is stacked and it only takes one injury to a star player, one bad play, or a case of the rona to totally change everything. Not to mention, I feel West has to be the favorite over Powell right now. They’re very well rounded.

Again, I agree with this as well. The chances are slim that both teams make it there to play each other, but... I believe both teams have a legitimate shot at it.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
