Overton is open again.  Is there a coach out there that can return this program to its glory of the past ?

Any school in metro can win if the players zoned would stay. Not so much about the coach as it is the players. metro schools have been raped by privates and even some inside metro.

The right coach will make the kids in zone want to come to Overton.

You seem to know metro pretty good. Any names you can share? What makes a coach the right one? Scheme does not matter to me or having a bunch of wins. The coaches that are winning now in metro are not playing with the kids zoned to them entirely, they have kids from all over metro and even outside of metro. I would hate to see Overton become a school that has a bad reputation like some.

If i were doing the hiring, I would not limit my inquiries to metro. Private schools and midstate schools would be considered also.

In years past,  there was a pipeline of coaches in metro that no longer exists.

My first call would be to a former coach who left after going 11-1.

Terry Anderson was and is a class coach. Nobody would be better. I am not sure any coach at a private or mid-state school would apply. Takes a special coach to coach in metro. Only people in metro know what is going on. I think you know metro well enough to know.

Coach Anderson loved Overton High School and the kids he coached. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his assistants. He gave Overton everything he had all of the time. I know he had mixed feelings stepping away when he did and I know there will always be a part of him that misses the game.

There are coaches out there I am sure could get Overton back on track. One name I always mention is Coach Morrison. I have a ton of respect for him and think he would be a great choice just not sure he would want it. I know there is an assistant there now that really wants it. One thing for sure is that Overton will have options.

Bleacher I agree about opening it completely up and not setting limitations. And hardtackle I agree it takes a special coach to coach in metro. Its not for everyone and not just anyone will be successful regardless of past success.

One thing that could hinder the search and cause some outside of metro to stay away is all of the restrictions currently in place. It's really putting teams in a tough spot. It will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Bleacher if I'm Overton I do make that phone call to Anderson and if he is not interested maybe he would at least be on the interview panel to give some insight. Good luck to the bobcats.

I think it’s possible. During my time in metro, Overton had some of the best athletes in their zone. Problem is you have to recruit to retain your own zoned kids. You can’t have the privates poaching your best players.

Coach Anderson was a class act and one heck of a football coach. His Overton teams were always well coached and hard nosed.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
