Good players will follow a good coach. This is the stupidest post you ever made if you are referring to new Overton coach. Most of your post have truth and informative. If a coach is not playing by the rules established by MNPS ( encouraging kids to attend their opened zoned school) the coach will not be successful. There is nothing wrong with promoting ones program and encouraging kids to attend your school. Those kids probably want to take an academic class not offered at their zoned school. Lol It is still wrong for a coach to make first contact to a kid for the sole purpose to play football. Open zone is not about sports, it is about academics, and if parents want their kid in a school for that reason that is fine. What metro has now is coaches that can't coach and need athletes to overcome their coaching.

Are 13/14 year olds telling their parents what school they’re attending and that’s final?

A coach approaches a kid or a parent and says we would love to have your son at out school. Now the parents and player need to decide if they want to go to school there. Just happens that the kid is a good player probably best on his current team. Academics is never discussed . I would go on record and say the 3 new players at Overton never considered Overton until a coach reached out. Just also happens all 3 are starters. Once again academics was never mentioned because the schools these kids are coming from has better academics .
eers
I’m open zones, this will always happen and will be followed up with “recruiting” talk and a lot of he said, she said. I would suspect that every good team in metro has kids that wouldn’t typically go to the said school.
tubthumper
Facilities and location are very good at Overton. I think if any MNPS school good come up out of the gutter (PC, HB, CR not included) if would be Overton. With the right guy it could be a decent program.
