You had 10 seconds to run a pass play and take a shot at the endzone (a 6-7 second play). If they connect they win, if not it is incomplete and they run the kicking team out and kick the field goal and go into OT,  All very doable, as long as the QB  doesn't take the sack, which keeps the clock running. He should have tossed it out of the endzone rather than cut back outside and try to scramble .  This was an execution issue with the QB not the coaches play call. If you go back and watch, even after the sack He the QB, tried to get everyone lined up and still had a few seconds to do so , but could not get everyone set and the ball placed. An incomplete pass would stop the clock just like a time out would have.
