At the half-way point of the 2022 football season, we can begin to discuss possible  3A Mr. Football candidates. Covington has senior Jamarion Dowell, an All-State running back last year. A fte r 5 games, Dowell has rushed for 629 yards on 60 carries, for a 10.5 yard per carry average, and has scored 12 touchdowns. His backfield mate, Skylan Smith, is just a sophomore, but has similar stats: 52 carries for 606 yards and 10 touchdowns, to average over 11 yards a carry.

These backs each sat out most of the second half in three of the 5 games Covington has played, when the coach pulled the starters as the mercy rule kicked in.

Who else out there is accumulating good stats?

Here in East Tennesse i would say Jordan Harris from Alcoa would be the front runner. I don't have a clue to his stat line but he has scored in every phase of the game: Offense rushing and receiving, Defense pick six, and Return game tds. His yardage totals have to be pretty hefty, I believe he went for over 250 total yards and 2 scores in the win over Maryville. In my opinion he will be tough to beat.

Easton Elliot is the #2 rusher STATEWIDE.  He has to be at the top of the discussion right now...  over 1200 yards and 17TD, not to mention he did not play much of the 2nd half in 3 of those games..

Elliott also has played a key role defensively, creating 3 forced fumbles, recovering 2, has a tackle for a safety, and several big hits for tackles. He’s more than a running back this year.
