Who is Playing Up?

4 schools chose to play up the last time reclassification happened.

Jackson County played up in 2a

Milan, Wooddale, and Pearl Cohn all played up in 4a

The BIG QUESTION is... Who will chose to play up in the next cycle?

Everyone that doesn't want to deal with Alcoa, starts the rumor that they will be playing up.  Will that be true?  Only coach Nix knows!  Interested in seeing the rumors...

This is a bit hateful.  He's not asking for your wishlist.  He was asking who was moving up.  We get it.  You want the winners to move up, but somehow I bet you never called for fulton to move up when they were winning.  And those D2 schools can't just change divisions.  they've followed entirely different rules.  wth are you talking about?

Instead of teams moving up let's just put D1 & D2 back together into one classification with 3 divisions.  All financial aid giving schools must play in AA or AAA.  Only the champion from each district (16 districts) would qualify for the playoffs.  Now that would be a man's league!  Very little travel for teams to find quality opponents.

That sounds terrible for everybody involved with football, except for fans.  Plus, the TSSAA wouldn't be able to fund their salaries and "Company Retreats" with that.

I find it funny how Alcoa is labeled as cowards!!!! If one would go to just one practice you would c why Alcoa is succesful. They work harder then anyone around.  Scouts have made the statement that there high school practice is more demanding then most college practices.  They demand perfection and the kids by into it. They play in the class they r suppose to play in. So that being said. Practice harder, lift weights and get stronger.  If u wanna be the best PUT IN THE WORK.

I love this post.  Most the 'Alcoa moving up' chatter comes from the people that want them out of 3a.

Alcoa wont win a 4A Gold Ball, thats why they are scared to move up because they know teams like Greeneville would put them out in the 4A Playoffs

And until they do move up, Alcoa is at best a "Yeah But" Team

At least Maryville has won Gold Balls at the highest classifications

Highest Alcoa has won at is 3A, too afraid of the 4A Playoffs

Why would it be so terrible for everyone but the fans?  Would it be due to the fact that coaches and players must actually win and be good to be rewarded with a playoff appearance

It would be terrible because it would reverse the least politicized and most valid decision that TSSAA has made since their inception. No public school anyplace in Tn. can legitimately compete with a private located in a metropolitan area. Don't bother giving examples of "this public school beat that private" either we're talking basic function...privates control their enrollment and SELECT each on an individual basis while publics must accept any and all who register until capacity is reached...that undisputed advantage alone creates an unbridgeable gap. Rules should always be proactive in nature, and the split does not separate schools who USE their built-in advantage over publics, it separates schools who HAVE that built in advantage should they decide to use it.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
