QF: Giles County hosts Sweetwater

Big matchup at The Brickyard in Pulaski this coming Friday.

Sweetwater is MUCH improved from the team that Giles County dominated in R1 last year.

Giles County's defense is playing at a very high level right now, but will face one of their stiffest tests of the year this week.

Computers say this game is an absolute pick 'em.

Sweetwater a slight favorite, but Giles gets the small nod for home-field advantage.

Should be a slobberknocker on Friday.

Sweetwater is quite a bit better than Loudon.  This is a toss up for me.

I would have to say Giles co is a 7pt favorite.  However if they think the same team from last year is coming they will be shocked. These kids are big fast and strong, they made a commitment to the weight room and it has showed. Offensive and defensive lines are just physical. Great rb and our defense just gets after it. Giles co will be our toughest test to date, watched some film on them and they are a very physical team with a nasty defense who doesn’t give up much….. should be a great game and I can’t wait to make the trip

So, the winner of this game probably gets to travel to Alcoa next week? That’s a daunting task, but I’m sure that whoever wins won’t mind making that trip, huh.

Nope, Alcoa will travel next week regardless. They alternate years in the semi's.

The one thing going for Sweetwater is excluding those Lipscomb games back in the day and that buzzsaw of an Alcoa team last year, GC has a tendency to lay an egg in the playoffs (excluding those two championship runs).

Back in the day, GC had a difficult time getting past Lipscomb except that one year they were down and GC beat them on their way to the Championship. GC also played in another championship and didn’t get put out. Alcoa, last year as with most years, is going to beat everyone. If you exclude those three years over the past 15-20 years, there were some good teams GC fielded that should have been to the championship game but, somebody would put then out of the playoffs. Seems for several years it was Lipscomb but, other years it was random teams that knocked them out. This Sweetwater game is similar to those other playoff teams.

However, they have played 3/4 5A schools this year to prepare for a playoff run so, they may just be primed for a championship run!

Yes, winner get the honor of playing Alcoa.  Alcoa is amazing this year!
