Heritage’s continues to fight for turf!

Grass is great, but resources need to be dedicated year round to properly maintain it, seeding, plugging, watering, cutting and between game’s maintenance to keep it right. Otherwise turf is better, after the up front expense to install the field and the 10 year surface replacement depending on wear.  I once asked a coach which he preferred and he said, “with the weather you have here, especially in November, turf, absolutely” so I wish Heritage and William Blount the best on getting turf.

Turf was installed here, not only did it help the high school program, but four middle school and high school soccer teams play on it. As a result, no lights, restrooms, extra bleachers and other expenses were needed for the adjacent field which is now just a soccer practice field. middle school and Youth football and other events also are held which made it tough on grass the last 20+ years.

Update on turf for HHS and WBHS schools. This has once again made it over all the local governmental hurdles and was passed last evening by the Blount Co board of commissioners w/ a vote of 14-2!  (Required #votes was 11.) Hopefully no more back door shenanigans so that construction can start right after football season. This project will include not only the football field, but also high jump, long jump, etc areas for track & field. (Actual track renovation is planned in a future phase, which will require separate & like process for approval.)

Grant Campbell was also recognized at last night’s mtg. He is a stud state champ high jumper, ranked 2nd in the WORLD right now in his age class. Probs a future Olympian. Due to lack of facilities at HHS, he had to practice at Maryville, which is a shame. Kudos to MHS admin &  track coach Nick White for allowing that student athlete to use their MHS facility to succeed on such a major accomplishment! Just goes to show that many coaches understand it’s all abt the kids, not just the uniform they wear.

It’s good to see this finally happening for BCS schools.
