Not a GP guy but am a friend of Coach Waggoner. He felt certain that they would get move down to 2A this past season, and felt he had a team capable of winning state. BTW, the article in the Knoxville paper said that he had one HC job in Georgia. This is not correct. He was HC at Chattooga, Decatur, Lumpkin Co. and Elbert Co.

Would've rolled in 2A if they got moved downed gonna look very different as a team with lots of talent graduating out.

From the outside looking in this seems to be a good job for someone if you can get by the Alcoa situation. Great resources with new facilities. Winnable region every year currently if they doesn't change in the next reclass. Hopefully they can get a guy that can build on the recent success of the program.

You can choose to play up. Loudon did it to avoid Alcoa

You can but GP wouldn't have faired any better in 4a.  They lost to Carter by 20 last year who was put out in the first round by Betsy 38-0

Dang I did not look at their schedule. That is not good. I knew they had two D1 signees. I figured they were great until Alcoa.

I have been told that they gave the last HC a cabin to live in. Is this true? If so that is a better job than I thought it would be.

They beat their 3a teams outside of Alcoa but lost to 4a Carter and had close games with  5a Cocke County (1-9) and 4A Fulton (2-9).  They weren't a bad team but wouldn't have made it to the Quarters playing 4a last year having to go up against teams like Betsy, AC, and Greeneville in the first few rounds if they would have made it to the top 4 in their Conference (Carter finished 3rd in their Conference so probably a 4 seed in stead of Fulton playing Greeneville first round).

No clue about the cabin thing, don't follow GP that close.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
