Shot Clock Please.....

Someone with more direct information can tell me if this is inaccurate, but my understanding is that coaches and Athletic Directors were pretty much unanimous in their support for a shot clock but it was still tabled and will be at least two years before the conversation can come back up. And even then it would take a year or two to implement once approved.

I personally think it’s long overdue. And I am not saying the shot clock should be :24 but it should be enough to force a team to do something.

To me, the worst part of the delay is that fact that there’s no argument of substance for shot clocks to be delayed. More than anything else it is an argument about having qualified people to operate them.

Girls basketball is in need of a shot clock for sure!  They get up 2 and they are milking the clock. It’s boring anyways but once they start the weave up top it’s nap time for me.

Two baskets, ten players, and one ball...why a shot clock? If you don't want the opposing team to spread the floor and milk the clock, just play defense! Strategy is as much of the game as athleticism, and I would personally like to keep it that way. It wouldn't be basketball to me if they just ran up and down the floor jacking up shots...I loved watching Tark's Runnin' Reb's go, but I also loved watching Pete Carrill run the "Princton offense" and backdoor teams with superior talent to death. Dean Smith's four corners offense is solely responsible for the shot clock in college because nobody could figure out how to deal with it, and that's just sad.

Holding the ball isn't strategy, it's lazy coaching. Play defense you say, how about play offense then?! Stall ball isn't game planning, it's either incompetent coaching or scared playing. Either way, it goes to show coaches don't trust in or believe in their players.

I believe the opposite of every sentence is a valid argument.

So you want to see no shot clock in college or the pro game?   It would be hard to argue ever going back to no shot clock and once high school gets one it will be the same.  A great coach can run a very effective offense in 40 seconds!  Change is good and it is coming!

Good for you. You're wrong, but good for you.

You have obviously never coached above Rec league. Strategy is what you use to give your team the best chance to win, however that might look. Holding the ball is included in that sometimes. Real coaches don't coach for the fans, they coach to win ballgames.

Used to be a huge NBA fan...never watch anymore, and the shot clock is only part of the reason. I simply think that at the HS level, brains should be part of the equation and not just who is bigger, faster, and more athletic.

I'm frustrated with fandom in general...in my youth, "your" team was your team year after year as were their rivals, it took years for rosters to turn over in the pro's and even to an extent in college. Players played for love of the game and not money, and even though on occasion a player would play the last couple of years for a different team, they usually rejoined their primary team to retire from.

Fast forward to now...you can't root for a team as much as follow a player as most of the good ones will play for 6-10 teams in a career, and in college entire rosters disperse and assemble in a season, depending on how much they get paid.

The "good ol' days" are gone. Never will the kids of today experience the thrill of watching their favorite team (which they have followed through thick and thin) win a championship at whatever level, because none of them root for a "loser" just because.

Sometimes getting old has its benefits.

This whole quote screams Upward.....fwiw, you couldn't be any more wrong about your assumption lol. It takes absolutely ZERO strategy, and shows even more lack of faith in players and in their own coaching, to hold the ball. If that's strategy, have fun in Upward.
