bigchief
Wow, this must really be a down year for recruits from Tennessee. No one from TN made the top 100 candidates for the McDonalds All-American team. We can usually get at least ONE player out of 100.
Opperman
I'm not surprised. Who is there that should have been one of the final 100? The upcoming classes should have a bunch of finalists and probably a few actual McDonald's A-A's, but this senior class just isn't quite as good. shack159
Being that there are only 24-30 spots on the team I agree that there really shouldn't be anyone on the team. Lee Humphrey would be close and signing with Florida isnt bad. It doesnt make top 30 material necessarily.
bigchief
ACtually, the list has the top 100 players, not 24-30. I guess Lee Humphrey is not as highly regarded as thought.
gomab2
I've said it all along, the Class of 2003 in Tn is down, no doubt... The Class of 2004 is Loaded, and especially DEEP. This class has great talent all throughout the Top 100-150, and is the Deepest talent pool of any class I've been around.... The Class of 2005 is very top-heavy, but may have the most talented Top 10 in a Class in TN in a long, long time.... I don't know if any class PRIOR to this one can compete with the High major Star ability of Tyler Smith, Reginald Delk, Richard Delk, JP Prince, Jamont Gordon, RouSean Cromwell, Charles Little, etc..... The Class of 2006 has a chance of being just as good at the top as 2005, if not better, with the likes of Willie Kemp, Brandon Wright, Pierre Niles, Thaddeous Young, Jeremy Williams, Joseph Watkins, etc... This is a true BIG MAN class..... This Class may actually be the BEST in TN history before it's all said and done.......
TJ
Big Chief, if you'd read the post.....he said the team has 24-30 SPOTS. What McDonald's AA does is nominate like 1500 people, then slowly break it down. It eventually gets to their 100 list that Byars made last year, and Shelton and Harrison made the year before. From there, I believe they choose their team, but I might be wrong about that. They might break it down to 50.
tnhooper45
I think his name is Jay Watkins in the class of 2006
gomab2
I've seen his name listed both Joseph Watkins and Jay Watkins... take your pick, I guess..... How many young big men can there be in just one Class???? It is amazing thinking of the height in the Class of 2006... Just off the top of my head... 6'8...Cole Bodkin, Houston 6'8...Center from LaVergne 6'7...Chris Williams, White Station 6'7...Brandon Wright, BA 6'7...Joseph Watkins, Hamilton 6'7...Jeremy Williams, Hamilton 6'7...Thaddeus Young, Mitchell 6'7...Pierre Niles, Treadwell 6'7...Wayne Chism, JSS 6'7...Mario Smith, Mitchell 6'7...Lucas Brown, Oakland 6'6...Keith Ramsey, Oakland That's an amazing 12(!!!!!) quality kids 6'6 or taller already in the Class of 2006....WOW.... TJ
Good, it's about time we get some size. Maybe our AAU teams will be able to compete on a national level now.
gomab2
TJ, I'm taking it you're being sarcastic..... This class is special, but Memphis is ALWAYS loaded with both TALENT and SIZE..... And Memphis teams almost always Place in the Nationals.........
TJ
Lately yes, there has been a few big men, but overall, Memphis doesn't compare nationally with big men. Nationals doesn't count to me. I'm talking like big time NIKE tourney (i.e. peachjam, ect.). Class of 2001 had no big men, Class of 2000 had no big men. The AAU teams I played on growing up never reached our full potential b/c we could never find a big man.
WarriorAlumni
I beg to differ. The Murfreesboro Stars will be competing in the Nike Tournament in Ohio coming up in March. I guarantee they are going to rip it up. The team's chore is made up of Brandon Wright, Keith Ramsey, Lucas Jones(Brown), Darius Roper, Jimmy Oden, and Gaston Miller. They were highly favored to be national championship contenders after handing Memphis Bellvue War Eagles two solid whippings in the AAU State tournament, but were plagued by injury and football practice hostaging. They were without their two quickest guards. This year they will come in the top 3 if not win it. Keep your eyes on them.
