The move of the DII State Championships to David Lipscomb is official, and it's happening next season. This is a smart move, as the arena is better sized for the smaller crowds, and it allows the games to be played two weeks earlier, avoiding the long layoff that happened previously. Two more weeks of practice for Spring sports, and a chance for the players to actually go on Spring Break!!

Thank God for a little common sense from the T$$AA...location does mean more than money for once...

Let's all hope that Nashville gets in gear and tries to get all of the state championships in their back yard...otherwise everyone will be driving to Memphis for everything.

Doesn't take 7 hours to get from Knoxville to Memphis.

I live in East Memphis, in the fall I live on the UT campus...fraternity park anyway.

Knoxville is mile marker 386 and Cordova/ East Memphis is mile marker 16 so thats 360 miles at 70 miles an hour (probably do more, 70 is just the speed limit and everyone goes atleast 74/75)

It takes about 5 hours non stop or less...and really I've seen it done in 4 and a half hours.

I still say Memphis is better suited for the Mississippi state championships.......no one outside of Memphis wants to go there!!!!!!

Blah blah blah...nobody outside of Martin wants to go there, so what's your point? Is Martin better suited for the Kentucky state championships?

Anyone reading some of the comments from the Commercial Appeal articles posted on CoachT may gain some insigts as to why the Memphis bid was not chosen.

Susan Brown, the Executive Director of the Memphis Sports Authority, had this to offer:

"The state tournaments," she said, "are really played in Memphis anyway."

Wow!! I guess she is focused solely on 3A boys. Even the TSSAA would have to be amazed and appalled at that attitude! So much for their next bid!!

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
