talking about scooter houston

Houston was the Lakeway Area Player of the Year because of all that he brought to the table. We settled on him because although West was the best team in the area, not all of the honorees for POY (Overall, Offense and Defense) needed to come from West.

Fact is when Scooter touches the ball, something good normally happens. Looking forward to a lot more of that this year when laying out the sports page on Saturday nights in the fall.

Houston would be a great asset to any program. He brings superior speed, great football sense, and not to mention a great sense of leadership. He wants to be the one to make the big play. These things seem to overshadow that he is only 5'7 and makes him seem like he is 6'2. Also pound for pound he is the strongest kid on a strong Jeff Co. roster. Good luck Scoot!

Realistically, can the Jeff County team this year compete for a state title. They made the quarters this year and according to my buddies, had a legit shot to beat DB. Seeing that DB almost beat Riverdale and then seeing Riverdale get beat by Brentwood in a close game, Jeff may not be that far away based what I saw in the 5-A game. I have to go on heresay, but how great would it be for Jeff to make a run at a 5-A title.

I agree the talent is there.....but will there be enough coaches at JCHS to teach the talent. At last count, Meadows only had three assistant coaches (John Brimer, Chip Watkins and Jim Hastings).

Two went to McMinn (Hutchins, Chait), one went to Sevier County (Wilhite) and one wasn't rehired (Whitehead). Also, the two freshmen coaches from last season (Crigger and Cox) won't be back.

Can anyone update me on any additions to the staff.

I think Jeff does have a legitimate chance to go all the way. After a close loss to DB, DB goes and has 7 turnovers and barely loses to Riverdale. They are returning all skill people and the word is that the offensive line is more talented than last year. I don't know what is going on in middle TN, but Jeff will be a force in the east, if not the whole state.

Braun Dabbs of Greeneville a few years ago was a lot like Scooter Houston. Dabbs was the main scoring star on Greeneville's state runner-up squad. When Dabbs ran into the big boys, there were two hits. The big linebackers hitting him, and him hitting the ground. The same can be said for Scooter. He is a strong high school player, but he will NEVER be a force in college. They are guys almost twice his size running with his kind of quickness.

Anyone remember Kingport DB's Adonis Johnson? Words can't describe how unreal he was. He was maybe 5'5 or 5'6 and MAYBE 175. Quick and powerful. They sound similar. Plays at ETSU and I don't know what he will do since football is extinct there.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
